If I had to guess, I'd say 47.296641,-120.4463505 is where I took that video

This was the only washout we encountered in sections 1, 2, and 3 this last Saturday July 7th

Bit of sad news... The Carlton General Store is closing its doors for good this Sunday, July 15. General Jeff has decided to move on to other things. Carlton is losing a big part of it's community and social center.
So to summarize, there is no longer any fuel in Carlton, WA. Plan accordingly. Nearest fuel is now in Twisp, in the Methow Valley.

Thanks, got it. I'll see what I can find for an alternate.

Thanks for the update - very sad news!

While it may not effect the WABDR rides as much, it was nice to refuel in one of the "classics" and have a bite there.

I wish someone would pick it up, but I can see how that is a difficult proposition

Take this with a grain of salt, I've never ridden this alternate for Section 3
    Original Route
    Basic Washout Bypass
    Fun Washout Bypass

What will you be riding/driving Doug? That washout keeps getting easier to navigate every week.

Thanks for the info. Will be in a fullsize van or a mits' montaro. Mits I figure no problem, but the wife wants to take the van. tried sec 1&2 N to S a few weeks ago with the van, made Sec 2 but got stopped at the snow on sec 1. Thinking next week sec 1 S to N ,pavement to Ellensburg, North on Sec 3.

Did half of leg 2 today. Picked it up just past Pinecliff on 410 and headed north of FS 7110. Was thrown off a bit as the sign said Bald Mountain road. Once we figured out that that was the road up we went. Hot and dusty. We came a cross a few private homes, one was huge and amazing! at the 513 1711 split we stayed left, the road come back together and 1711 looked like a bit more room for a full sized truck. Once we hit 1712 and the ridge the views were awesome! We got to the towers and then headed down towards Wenas. This leg looked short, but was steep and very bumpy so we took it pretty slow. Seemed to take forever to get down, and you think you are almost there when you have to jog a bit further till you can drop down. The shallow water crossing was fun.

By this time we were getting tired, and as we had done Umtanum ridge last year we went ahead and took the by pass route. Smooth and easy. We did notice bird houses about every 1/4 mile, curious if anyone knows what bird they are trying to help.

Compared to section 3 this leg was a breeze. I know Umtanum can be quite rough, but truck, jeep or motorcycle will all make it through.

Section 1 is wide open and easily doable in a 4Runner. Just did it in a D90 a week ago.
