here's the first of possibly more installments
Having been awarded some unplanned time off (read laid off) I took a break from the job search to hit some State Forests in the northeastern Catskills.
The ride 2012 Honda XR650L not much in mods, just a larger gas tank (Clarke 4 gal) a skid plate, rear rack, crf230 front fender and seat cover.

headed to the Rensselaerville State Forest
    [IMG]
some decent dirt roads and a bunch of trials, I was heading Southeast of there near Preston Hollow
    the views
    [IMG]

    the roads
    [IMG]

    next was Bates State Forest
    [IMG]
    then onto

I rode mostly the main 2 track roads as I was alone (I had a crash by myself back in May on a single track I've decided to take it easy for awhile and do "trials" with someone else around.....just in case)
Leonard Hill State Forest I came across this cemetery out in the woods
    [IMG]
this gentleman had a heck of a life revolutionary army and lived to be 95....
it was a nice day to be in the woods
    [IMG]

all told about 100 miles in a few hours, a good way to take the mind off of troubles.......

    Swamper,

I love that part of the Cap Dist area. Are the dirt roads do-able by a noob on a V-Strom?

    Thanks for the replies folks,

I've ridden in the Adirondacks a little but mostly paved roads, real nice rides, I tend to head to the Catskills as it's closer to the house.

The roads I was on could be ridden on a veestrom, there was only one section on Leonard Hill Road where it was slick mud, I was exploring and making mental notes of the trials off the main access roads for future rides with another rider or two.

Hopefully I'll be down there again soon, checking out a few different areas.
