I'm testing out these point and shoots for a lighter kit but they don't compare to the lenses of a DSLR...

Awesome continuation of your epic road trip Black8. Fantastic pictures too.

I stopped once at a small town in Montana to get gas and snacks. In the convenience store there was a guy kneeling down stocking the beverage shelves of a refrigerator. Some woman didn't like his tone when he responded to a question from her and she said "I should notify the police". He said "Go ahead. I'm the sheriff."

Yup out of sight out of mind... that and I could not park the bike on the grass so it went next to the yurt on the concrete slab...

I had a late start today and left Shreveport at 8am... on my way out I noticed this mural and thought this would be a good backdrop for a photo before heading out for the day... my destination would be Oklahoma City so I can pick up Route 66 the following day...
    29.jpeg

my TomTom selected the route for today and the only thing I changed from the route was "no tolls"... I was on LA-1 for a while until I saw a sign for Texarkana... I've always wanted to check it out and I threw the gps for a loop and kept auto correcting the route...

I've always heard about Texarkana from the movies and songs so I decided to see what the hubbub was about...

found this mural in Detroit, TX...

this is downtown Detroit, TX... I love going through these small communities where time seems to have stopped... these store fronts were still in service too...
    29e.jpeg

I didn't take many photos today and just headed for Oklahoma City... I guess that I'm looking forward to Route 66 and just wanted to get there already...

    Day 34 stats:
    Miles - 422
    Gas - $24.55
    Lodging - $57.52
    Meals - $27.80

I'm currently in Albuquerque, NM today and will be leaving for Seligman, AZ along Route 66... Seligman will be my last stop before making it back home...

I won't be able to post anymore updates until I get back to SoCal due to the amount of photos I took yesterday (150+)... since I took so many, and plan to take many more today, I need to sort and edit them before I update the RR... I would have never gotten any sleep had I attempted to sort/edit my Route 66 stuff...

    a couple of my favorites...

I woke up eager to finally start my ride on Route 66 this morning that it was still dark out while I packed the goose... I couldn't leave yet so I went in for some continental breakfast at the hotel until there was enough daylight... afterwards it was off on the I-40 up to I-44 North so I could connect with Route 66... the sun was just beginning to come up when I left but I wanted to beat rush hour around Oklahoma City... once I arrived onto Route 66, I found an ordinary everyday street that you find anywhere else... I say this because I had painted this picture in my head so much that when I initially started riding on Route 66 - I though "nothing special about this..." much in the same manner as reading a book and then seeing the movie... but only the book was better...
    35.jpeg

early morning golden light kissing the goose... (I got a chuckle out of this sign finding it in Oklahoma)
    35a.jpeg

it wasn't until I got out of Oklahoma City and into the smaller communities did I start to appreciate Route 66 for it's artwork and nostalgia...

the further I rode out of Oklahoma City the more rustic the landscape... once I got into El Reno, Route 66 really came alive for me... that picture I had painted in my head suddenly came to fruition... it really was Main Street USA that reflected the buildings of yesteryear...
    35d.jpg

    35e.jpg

although this is a rental center today... I can picture in my head a DeSoto pulling into this gas station and hearing the "ding, ding" as the car pulled in... then suddenly an army of car hops in their gray suits, bowtie, and cap appear to service the car... filling the tank with gas and the complimentary oil check, tire pressure, and windshield cleaning... all for .34 cents per gallon...
    35f.jpg

the stories that Pubs like this must hold as a place of respite for weary travelers on the Mother Road where you can get Cold Beer and Chicken on a hot Oklahoma day... at a time when cars didn't have air conditioning as an option... now it just sits as an old reminder of a once gone by era... call me nostalgic but I liked those old simple times...

I really didn't plan my route... just that I wanted to ride Route 66 on the way home... in some cases I would get on the wrong road only to find out I veered off course when I no longer saw the Historic Markers for Route 66... these rustic roads are dotted with reminders of past times like this bridge I found on Old Hwy 81...
    35h.jpg

    35i.jpg

once I was back on track... Route 66 snakes in and out of I-40... sometimes you are on the Interstate and other times your are traveling right beside it... it was here I had an epiphany about my tire cupping on my trip to Key West... as you can tell the goose is canted to the left because of the crosswinds - which cants the tires during travel... those crosswinds going to Key West and on I-40 were horrible... at least I solved that mystery...

if you are ever make it to Elk City... you'll find one of the National Museums for Route 66... onsite are buildings with the facades of Route 66... the admission fee is $5.00 for an adult... I also bought a map for Route 66 at the Gift Shop...

the Barn museum that houses vehicles used in past times...

    the Blacksmith Shop...

there are many more buildings to explore if you decide to bring the family or make this place a destination on your bike...
