I'm very frugal while on the road... I pick hotels that offer the FREE hot breakfast that keeps me going through the day... I buy snacks from the McD's dollar menu... I brought a couple of Jack Link's Pounder beef jerky and snack on that with beer at night while I update the ride report... for beer at night - I usually buy an eight pack of IPA and carry what I don't drink to the next destination...

if you notice there were days I hardly spent any funds and a few days where I spent anywhere from $20.00 to over $40.00 for big meals or restock supplies...

Thanks Dave... I'll have to see when I can do the road trip to New England... I'm planning a vacation to Europe (maybe Tuscany, Italy) with the Mrs. so I may have to slide that ride to the right... "Happy wife... happy life..."

Nice RR. I’ve been looking at the Stelvio, but lack of a dealer network have kept me from pulling the trigger. Have you found that to be an issue?

I'm curious as well. I am considering a VIII for an extended adventure where I could find myself away from the dealer network.

IMHO, that's one of the risks you run for having any exotic motorcycle... I own three Italian bikes, the goose and two Ducs.

The dealer I bought the goose from is in downtown San Diego - which is one hour away from me... the dealer network was never an issue for me since I like to wrench on my own bike anyway... the Stelvio is sooooo easy to work on and most maintenance items are easily accessible (i.e. valve clearance checks and plugs without having to remove the gas tank) I've taken the rear tire and drive shaft apart using everyday metric tools... that and I put together my own tool set that resides on the bike for me to trouble shoot and do maintenance...

there is a wealth of knowledge on the Stelvio HERE and others that I used to identify the goose's quirks for DIY fixes to get ready for my cross-country ride... I can tell you that the Stelvio is stoutly built...

I hope that helps you both...

Sorry I missed the second part of your question about the bags... they worked really well for me... will include a short review in the summary I am working on...
