Speaking of fuel, I only got 35 mpg out of the fuel from the Bar10, probably low octane and unknown age. Every other tank I was in the 42-44 mpg range.

I think the road to Point Sublime was my favorite. I wouldn't mind doing the last 4-5 days of the trip again, it was the best I think and I wouldn't mind seeing Elbow Canyon.

Thanks for the most excellent adventure!!

Thank you for sharing what you saw. I sure hope the two of you join up to do another ride at some point just to give us another dual report to enjoy.

So glad you went to and documented Twin Point. My curiosity after passing that up on a previous trip out there confirms it's a worthwhile future waypoint.

On my ride to Toroweap last August I 4x4 pre ran Lime Kiln and Wolf Hole out to the rt 5/ rt 1 intersection to stage fuel.

That waterfall slate ledge near the top back of Lime Kiln is highly technical.

And the red rock pumice silt was super deep... for like 7-10 miles through Wolf Hole ( you reference Mud Mountain). A nasty surface on a big bike.

There were high silt banks lining the washes that looked like would bury a rear wheel of a moto. I was fish tailing the entire time in my 4x4. That section took me a looong time.

And I drove my 4x4 back down Elbow Canyon on the way from staging fuel and that was SUPER GNARLY... a 10 mile descent filled with layer upon layer of baby heads.

I would assume this to be impassable on a moto until it's graded ( if at all possible) and only for a serious 4x4 or Razer with loads of spare time and a couple of full flasks.

This report is ... quintessential D6253.

Actually, @PeterKaa recently rode a 990 up Elbow Canyon, so it is technically doable, though he did say it took several hours, and carrying the bike maybe would've been easier. Your description was what made larryboy want to ride it. I haven't been up Elbow Canyon since 2009.

    Thanks, @DesertSurfer.

I'm hoping PeterKaa can post some pics of Elbow Canyon to see if it was graded or rains washed some of the fill off onto the shoulders of the trail. 2 hours to go 10 miles is pretty slow going.

I'm also curious about that Black Rock Canyon route which runs to the rt5/ rt1 intersect... from the highway near the Az border.

Well done, in all regards. A wonderful route through a place I've thought about a lot, the North Rim.
Great report and of course, great photos. I enjoyed it very much.
    Thank you.

Yeah, I'll quit my whining :-)
I might do a light version of the report, with mostly pictures and less narrative, this thread has me motivated.

Yeah, was just looking at the pictures again no doubt.

Guess you can just roll up to the next service station in Fredonia and get some supreme grade :p :-D

About two months ago I would have been happy never to have laid my eyes on Elbow Canyon :p
@DesertSurfer s description is pretty accurate, on a loaded big bike, it just sucks.
Did it about a year ago as well, but it has really deteriorated since.

Thank You Dave for your time & effort writing up this RR, simply outstanding!

Two months before you guys, I also rode up the 220 Tater Ridge trail and found some yellow caution tape blocking my route from the "washed out" road. This turned out to be a very beatiful route with nothing resembling a wash out though there were a couple of puddles. :-)

Your RR gives me incentive to spend more time in the area.
