That's right, I'm starting this already. In fact, a few of us started last night over alcohol, which basically means we didn't accomplish anything :lol3

As I discussed with some of you last night, I'm out. I'll always try to attend, but I'm done with the planning duties for the time being. So don't mistake the fact that I started this thread as a willingness to run/help run another one. I've done my time and enjoyed it, but now it is time to let another take the reins.

In years past we've always had a 4 - 5 month discussion about location and venue. This has produced some good ideas, but in the end someone has to wind up taking charge, taking control, and make a command decision about location, venue, and date. As the current curator my departing wish is that we avoid months of wasted discussion, and instead try a different agenda.

    So, here's the plan:

Before we do anything else, we need someone to take this over. If you are interested, speak up. Having a couple of people share the duties isn't a bad plan either, provided you can get along and work together :lol3 Please do not volunteer to do this and then expect others to tell you what to do or how to do it. If you want to lead, then lead. Those of us who've done this are happy to provide experience-based advice, but beyond that if you are going to take this on it should be with the intent of putting in the time to research and scout possible locations (or find local people in that area to do your scouting for you, complete with pics), find a means of arranging a Saturday night dinner, be able to take paypal payments from inmates, and during the event be prepared to arrange/provide rudimentary assistance should anyone need it (stuck bikes, crashed bikes, dead bikes, venue issues, etc.). Please keep in mind that we all love the Smokys but are not interested in competing with the E.R., so if you are thinking about taking this on so you can set it up in that area you are likely to get voted off the island.

A couple of you at the event mentioned the possibility of getting involved, but I'm not going to throw your hat into the ring for you. You're sober today and might have changed your mind :lol3 If we have multiple volunteers they will all be subjected to rigorous cross-examination by BYOB planning committee Alumni. Many of you know I'm Jewish so it should go without saying that bribes are not only encouraged, they are expected.

Once we know who is running the next one, he or she can start threads to entertain discussion about location, venue, and date as needed.

I didn't shoot it down. Talk to the Canadian Ogre about that.

If the place is as nice as you say it is I wouldn't have cared if the cabins were $250 per night. It's only a couple of nights :dunno

We're looking for the person to run it first. Then we'll worry about the when and where :deal

For the record, last year was in Ky. We had a terrible time trying to find a good venue. Unfortunately we never did. The riding was great, but the facilities upset a fair number of attendees.

Historically BYOB has been as far east as Missouri, as far north as Galeton, and has also been in Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia. Because it almost always falls around the time of Rick's Rendezvouz and because we have a lot of Canadian and northeasterm attendees we want to try to keep it farther north than NC, and usually somewhere in some kind of decent mountainous riding area that offers a combination of good pavement and good off pavement stuff. We also get a lot of attendees from places like Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, etc., so we don't want to have it in Northern Maine :lol3

I've located a motel/campground combination that I'll be checking out as soon as I have a free day.

    Nobody is paying attention!!!!!

You need a new leader FIRST!!!!
    Then, you figure where/when.
Typical, everybody starts flapping their gums without listening!!!!

Maybe, just maybe, the location will have something to do with whether someone chooses to get involved.

You might want to think, before you open your Dorito chute.

Just trying to keep the focus on the original post is all.
Point of knowing where it's at, as to who may be willing to take over, is understood also.

Retro has nothing under control. I'm just running out to check a possilbe location.

What makes this so needle-in-a-haystack is that there really is no searchable comprehensive list of mom-and-pop motel/campgrounds.

My guess is this will probably not pan out, but it's worth checking out.
