I plan on taking a trip to DC. My extended family will be in motels, but I would prefer camping. Do any locals have any tips on campsites (no necessarily MC specific, but I'll be on the bike) near the DC area? We will be doing the sight-seeing thing in DC most of the week. Arrive 4/13 - Depart 4/20 or so.

    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Lake Fairfax Park is nice and about 20 miles out of town. As long as you plan your trip to the city during rush hour you'll be ok. You can use HOV on your bike or ride to the Orange Line Metro which will take you to the heart of the city.

Here's a site with reviews of other campgrounds in the area. I have not been to any so can't offer an opinion other than I prefer the Virginia side of the Potomac river:

    Hope this helps,

We're staying at Cherry Hill Park, good or bad. They have some trailers on site, and the folks I'm traveling with are more bed/bedroom oriented, so it works out for everybody. El Cheapo me will be tenting it, but we still get to stay close by for our daily tourism activities.

Bring some earplugs. Alot of RV's, and next to I-95. I've been to their 'conference center' a few times and it seems like they have alot of semi-permanent residents. I'm glad you found a place.
