Have started looking through threads that my late husband enjoyed. (cancer strikes again) I miss riding., this may be next best thing right now. So glad I kept this account alive for so many years...a little weird, but now it seems OK.
Will have to learn protocol as I proceed.

Howdy crew, good to be back :thumb

You are absolutely welcome along for the ride RivahRider. Thanks for reminding me why we share these travels - we can't be on the road all the time, but when we read a ride report WE ARE THERE :ricky
I really encourage you to do whatever it takes to get yourself on the road again, with your own bike. It's good for the mind, body and soul...

    @FastRedBike
I've put on another 10k km on the odo' since that last post - I'm WAY behind :lol3

(EDIT: XL gone - Large it is! Thx for the feedback :thumb)

Oh, quick question for everybody - Are the EXTRA LARGE pictures too wide for your screen?

I started this report way back on a 9" screen, now I'm on a 27" screen - I know most people are in the middle...

Let me know what's better for you and I'll see what I can do.

    Large

Large is good enough - the issue is the proportion of the pic to the page - at normal font size, on my 30" screen "Extra large" is cut off on the side while "large" fits nicely. I have to use an extra-small font to get extra-large to fit on the page.

I usually try to limit pictures down to about 1,000 pixels wide or 700 pixels high just to avoid controversy.

Your pics are usually so good that the bigger the better. Large fits the screen better though.

Was far too tired to be on the road last night. At the first lights on the horizon I grabbed what was likely the last room in town. A sketchy motel on the outskirts along the highway.

The town exists only for the oil fields - as far as I could tell there was no residential area. Nearly all of the buildings had been put up in the last few years
and there was lots of new construction. Nothing there but massive hotels for the workers, cheap bars, and gas stations - everybody I spoke with was pretty
miserable. A man with a cell phone paced the parking lot in the dark, arguing with his wife back home "I'm out here for YOU!" His voice drowned out by the
trucks rolling down the highway. Nobody wants to be there. Everybody has to be there.

It's a sad place and I'm lucky to have been dealt a hand in life that allows me to roll on the throttle and leave this outpost behind.
There's not much to say, but so much time to THINK. The roads may be straight, but damn it's beautiful. I'm never bored of the prairies.

It's HOT. Soon after I fill the tank, the engine bogs down and stalls. I roll to the side of the road and stop. The starter works but the engine won't catch...
I open and close the tank - maybe it's a venting issue? It dosen't start right then,
but after waiting a few minutes the engine is thumping away again. Never had that problem since...

Another issue, the headlight goes out. I swap the bulb, but the replacement doesn't work either. Back on the road I notice the light comes on when I really rev the engine,
loose connection somewhere - not much worry right now, as the LED aux lights overpower the headlight anyway. I hardly notice it's gone...
