    Hi Gals and Guys,

    First of all, thank you Nk14zp for directing me here.

    I come here in need of help because my dealership has no time to check this noise.

    My KTM 990 Adv from 2008 is making this weird noise and i have no idea what it is. I've already checked the oil and the bike seems to ride normal.

    The noise starts about 5 sec. after starting the engine and disappears within 30 sec. after starting the engine.

    I've made a short video where you can clearly hear it;

    Thank you in advance for the reply.

    @Bardockion

    Can you make another vid from the other side, approx same position? Sounds like a metallic resonance, hard to tell from the vid if it's comining from inside or outside... Weird alright!

    I got a similar sounding rattle a short while before one of the graphite rings in one of the link pipe joints disintegrated completely......

    Would go over bike looking for loose bolts.

    Strange it goes away.

    Maybe check oil pressure?

    I've went through most of the bike and even removed both tanks to search for anything that might be loose but without avail.

    Thanks for the replies, much appreciated!

    Here's the sound on the other side of the engine;

    Odd, sounds superficial and tinny/ squeaky for tensioner which is usually a deeper rattle but it does fit the cycle of startup and disappear so..
    Sounds more dry metallic exterior rub vibration induced

    I've called a local garage if they can check it out for me since i have no knowledge on how to do stuff on my engine.
    I can drop off my KTM today and atleast these guys did not Boo me away.
    I'll keep the thread updated if they come with a prognosis.

    Check that both the exhaust manifold bolts are torqued up tight... and that the errant bolt / nut you might have dropped or misplaced isn’t lodged somewhere between the motor and frame.
    Check exhausts for cracks too!
    Doesn’t sound like it’s internal.

    Or have a Priest do an exorcism...

    I think i checked those bolts, did not follow the whole exhaust system for cracks tho.

    The priest is too busy preforming exorcisms on BMW's.

    when it happens does the oil light flicker? Mine made a similer noise when it was hot and through this group I found out it was the cam chain tensioner at the rear cylinder. 24k, changed both tensioners and good to go.

    Hehe, I would say it's the exhaust heat shield, when is loose it sounds like that, try putting your shoe on it and listen if the sound stops. Another one may be the graphite seals on the exhausts manifold, on the back part.

    Rock caught under the heat shield? Clutch plates rattling until oil comes from the clutch jet?

    And what's the name of this fine establishment? Maybe we need a sticky of all the shitty dealerships worldwide and their bullshit stories. I'd rather wait 3 days for shipping than buy a quart of oil off these fuckwits.

    Sorry for the late reply.

    I ended up with a good deal on a 1090 in exchange for the 990. I did not find out what the problem was with the 990.
