    From the store's website ...

    http://graycreekstore.com/news

    "The Pass is now Open!

Tina Zimmerman emailed Tom to say that she had opened up the Gray Creek side and turned the sign around. The very top patch still has snow that would be difficult for small low clearance cars to get through for the next couple of days but that should melt fairly quickly. The grading on the Gray Creek Side side should be finished up today as well."

Yes staying with the low fender mainly for my trip to Baja this fall. And in general, riding in the Kootenays is less muddy than the coast. I have been tempted, but some of the dry areas of Baja I bet are worse with your front tire kicking up the powder in your face.

That's a lot of Orange. Is that north of Deer Park?

Above Cayuse Creek at the end of Lady Bird FSR. We rode through the very rough Quad trail. From Cayuse to Norns FSR

Did a couple of day loop of off-road and back roads over the long weekend. Along the Kettle River as it meanders through the Christian Valley. Fly fisherman trying early morning luck.

Now that brings back memories...all the places I used to ride my old XL350 when I was a teenager! I used to work on dad's sawmill on the edge of that piece of desert when I was a kid....makes me sweat just looking at the picture!

It's amazing the different terrain you can ride in a day. Hot work Dean ! It was only about 35 when I went through.

    M. The seat is very good. It was on the list prior to you purchasing. I would get a suede one if ordering new.

Actually that Desert extends in fingers up through the Okanagan towards Lillooet where it splits down towards Lytton and up North as far as Farwell Canyon on the Chilco River... Fingers of it extend down to Spences Bridge and towards Hedley as well

Gunnerbuck! How are you? I've been dormant here for the past two years but just got a bike again so thought I'd check out the kootenay thread since I recently moved here.

I wondered where you got to, I moved to the center of Vancouver Island in Campbell River... I'm still doing the interior ride every year, heading out on the 20th of Aug..

Much better Avatar TheMechanic! The old one was.....well frightening! Scary Clowns - yuk!

ChinaHead was closed/decommissioned last year. I would expect a chainsaw and several buddies might be needed until washouts finally make it impassable.

That's too bad, sounded like a good route. I'm sure I'll find lots of other places to go this week

Not So... It is not called China Head anymore, the road over the hill is referred as the Big Bar to Yalacom road... It is open and is the only exception to the above 1920 meter motorized closed area...

Sneaky devils! Have you been over it recently?

I was with a friend last year who tried it (unloaded bike) and said it was not good.

Anyone who has been over it lately want to comment?

I went through about a month and a half ago and it was ok... There is a couple single track paths cut in the faces of 2 slides, a bit technical, but I found it pretty easy on the 640... The rest is as good as any time I've travelled this route, steep choppy hills, a few creek crossings , epic scenery and lots of bear sign..

So even thou it is an "open road" there is no maintenance as the slides have not been cleared.

Are you sure the road is "officially open" or is it just an unofficial renaming and ride-it till it gets impossible :hmmmmm
