Caught the spring fever, doctor said the only cure was to take off work and go ride.... Ended up doing a 200 mile day trip that went through Peabody WMA. Peabody WMA is reclaim ground from all the old peabody strip mines, its been handed to the state (cause its worthless, other than hunting) and is now a permit access ($15) WMA that takes up over a 14 mile long swath of land from Madisonville to Central City. There are cliffs, jagged rocks, boulders everywhere, lots of wetlands. Its just very interesting and rugged land from a time when mine reclemation laws were very loose. Most of the roads are maintained, except the Vouge area. The Vstrom runs out of ground clearance on a few roads and trails In the next 20 years, i think we can look forward to another several hundred acres becoming WMA land, so long as it isnt sold for private hunting ground. The company still holds several square miles of reclaimed ground, but the hauls roads are still active at this time.
