I’m planning on riding out west this summer and wondered whether anyone has ridden across the tops of the provinces. I have driven the Trans-Canada a number of times and would just like to try something different. I have plotted a rough route, attaching a jpeg file and would appreciate any thoughts.

I'm heading west this summer too, from Toronto. My route looks similar to yours, except we will stop in Edmonton. We plan to leave Toronto the first week of July, retuning towards the end of August. Return route is close to the US border (Hwy 3 from BC to SK). First trip for us out west.

HWY 3 is a great MC road, at least the BC part that I have driven.

I will be leaving around the 28th of July, with my wife flying out around the 4th of August and she returns around August 20th and I will then drive back.

You will be passing right by my lake lot, let me know closer to the trip date and we'll se if we can link up. I work one week in, one week out so I'm not there all the time. My place is on Highway #2 toward Slave Lake, leaving Athabasca.

You'll be passing within 500 feet of my house.

    The beer will be cold.

I picked up the CAA maps and we have seriously started plotting routes in MapSource. Originally had planned for Heather to fly into Edmonton but now thinking of having her fly straight to Anchorage. I will ride straight out, pick her up and then will work our way around Alaska and down into B.C. We will spend 2 weeks on the west coast and then Heather will fly home out of Calgary.

Give me an idea how much time you have and what kind of roads you want to ride, and I'll post what I think are the highlights.
    Lottsa this stuff:

    Or this?:

If you want to stick to the painted roads, there are some great twisty sections and some easy dirty shortcuts that you could do with a full load if dry.
    Cheers
