I agree that it's odd being closed on one end. I'm betting all those cars parked on the Stoney Fork side were surprised when they got there.

I gave up on the Forest Service web site. Seems they really don't care to keep it updated .

Was stoney fork road in good shape? It's been closed for 2 years because of rain washing it up. That was my favorite loop before it was closed.

Sections of it were freshly maintained with some loose rock. Near the top the was an exposed culvert but it was filled with large stones so it was easily passible.

As I said above... tons of campers... tents seemed be pitched all over the woods in a couple places. Not sure if any of that was legal along that road.

Have you ever been down FS2074 from the Parkway? Last year I took a chance and Im perplexed why they have kept it closed. Maybe they dont have the resources to maintain the campground near the bottom?

I haven't been on it since they closed the gate, we call it Neil's Creek. I can be too it in 20 minutes. I asked a friend last year who works with the forest service. He thought it was washed away? Said they were going to start last summer working on it but it never reopened?
I would ride across 197 to barnardsville go up stoney fork to the BRP then I'd take FS 472 ( S toe river rd) back to 80 then home. That was my favorite loop but it's been closed for 2 years

As I recall there were a couple minor washed out places but nothing that couldn't be fixed pretty easily. The camping area looked to be in worse shape and maybe that's the reason. The day I went down I me a group of probably 10 bikes going up. Looked to me that it gets a fair amount of traffic still.

Soooo,,,, a little info. Google has a different name for the road and doesn't show the forest service road that intersects where the spring (tag location) is. The coordinates are correct. The location is White Oak Flats Rd. (SR 1415) and FS 278. Turn of White Oak Flats onto FS 278 and the tag is just before the gate.

So does that mean that the FS road is gated? I was thinking about heading up that way.

I rode up to Barnardsville today, both Big Ivey and Stoney Fork were gated. I suspect that every road with a Forest Service gate is going to be closed for a while.

I wonder if all the illegal camping had something to do with that??

I don't know? I was at the top of stoney fork Sunday and went around the gate thinking the bottom would be open. But it was closed so I went around it also! There was several groups camped at the bottom below the gate. Actually had a Ford pickup blocking the gate but I had enough room to get by.. I love that road

When I was up there I didn’t see any camping, but there was a group of hippies playing in the creek at the lower gate…
