The recent thundershowers have added up to a few inches of ionized rain water. This has really brought a whole new batch of things into bloom.

But equally as impressive is when the rain drains into the waterways shortly there after.

I rode up the Black River National Scenic Waterway to Potowatami Falls. There was a nice breeze off Lake Gitchigumi comin down the river and the temp was mid 60's. The flow was pretty good through the entire gorge.

I learned a new northland fact yesterday. I was told that as the Trillium's near the end of their bloom, alot of them take on a pink color compared to their mid life snowy white.

Well, I found this stretch where they were doing just that. I will have to watch the white ones over the next week or so to see if this is the case for most of em. Maybe it only lasts a few days where they change color ? Kinda like the leaves on the trees in autumn.

Interesting, I always assumed they were just a different variety.

Me too, until I met this lady yesterday at the falls. I thought the pink / purple ones were a pretty rare variety instead. Time will tell. :D

The rain has firmed up the looser gravel roads, and made dust non existant on em. :clap I hate dust ! Especially oncoming vehicals. The bigger and faster they are, the more I hate em.

Not a issue today. Only bad thing was it was pretty hot. Hit 79 with alot of sun. At least there was a good strong breeze all day.

Was cruzin a very rural gravel road in a county forest, miles and miles from nothing at all, and here was this memorial of sorts.

A few miles later, evidence of Woody diggin for bugs in the tree.

Several miles later, you come across a memorial for a crashed B - 47 from 1961. Its actually TWO crashed B - 47's in the general area. It went down deep into the forest miles from any town.

Some of the remains are there. The melted and crushed canopy sits on top of the memorials roof . P1020708.jpeg

A scale model sits atop a seat, steering wheel and various bits and pieces.

There was this VERY long inscribed plaque that was a story about what it was like from a pilots POV to take off, fly and land these monsters. I couldnt get it well on film. Lets just say its mighty nuts, compared to smaller and lighter planes of that era.

These were either brave or crazy guys who took these things on. Lots of crashes through the years.

Note how the wings are drooped as it rolls around on the ground. They flex to more flat as they pick up speed ! At 23:40 you see them use the extra booster rockets built into the fuselage to launch the beast into the air !

The wing tips flexed 17 feet from still to under full load ! :eekers

And check out the move known as " The idiots loop " that was used to drop nuclear bombs !!

Rode onward over a nice creek. No wildlife, but a great view.

    P1020702.jpeg

Ran across some Corn Lily's in bloom in a shady part of the deep forest.

    Rolled on towards Lake Evelyn.

The glowing green tunnel is alive with lush color now. The ferns are growing rapidly.

    P1020719.jpeg

Lake Evelyn is great as allways. Not a single structure on the entire shoreline, or anywhere near it for that matter.

A small, gravel, public boat ramp to a great, super quiet lake. I have never seen anybody there or on it ever.

Another rain shower has put the vegetation growth into overdrive.

I have to mow the lawn every 3 days now ! All sorts of domestic and wildflowers are popping up new kinds every day now.

Lily of the Valley have come out and are near peak.

Its why I moved back after 25 years of adventure elsewhere.

    That, and $ 13 K houses with 2 car garage and $ 900 a year property taxes. :lol3

30 degrees this mornin ! Frost and a tiny bit of ice on the picnic table ! Good thing the wife covered all her plants last night. The wildflowers are built for all this though.

Not a problem. Enough flow to keep the center clear of pads. The Brookies hang out right downsteam of the culvert pipe. A weedless hook and red worms work pretty well.

Real nice 65 degree temp at mid day for cruzin gravel backroads.

Had to take a whizz, so I went down a dead end gravel road allmost 3 miles to the end to take a break.

    P1020762.jpeg

While I am takin a whizz, lookin at all the forget me nots,......... I get the weird feeling I am being watched.............. suddenly, ..... WTF !

    P1020763.jpeg

Up hangin in the tree is this !

Some sorta thing filled with what feels like corn kernals ?? No idea what its for,...... or much less why its hangin here at the end of a 3 mile long dead end gravel road ? !

    P1020764.jpeg

Other side of the road was a very cool home made sign. Of course its used as jackass target practice.

The Mount Zion lookout was sweet !

All the different shades and textures of greenery as far as the horizon to Lake Superior. The trees are so vibrant right now.
