Suppose there are several? I need to load up Northern Travelers Plains route asap. My other option is using my Garmin 60 CSx. I'd rather use the phone. So I can see it!

I used osmand and it worked perfectly. We shall see how it goes. Sounds like some osmand users have experienced excessive power usage lately. Thanks

How are you guys mounting your S8? My ram x-mount is super annoying as it constantly wants to hit volume or power.

Two popular smart phone apps are Osmond and Locus. There are some others. But there is lots more information here on those two.

Since you already have the Garmin, I would strongly recommend loading as many tracks as you can on it and take it as a backup.

IMHO all GPS devices are finicky when in actual use on a bike due to lighting, rain, vibration, etc issues.

Sounds like you are a beginner on a tight schedule. Try to do a few test rides before starting out on your big ride to get a handle on what problems you might encounter.

Look into the RAM Universal Finger Grip mount. The fingers can be adjusted to not hit buttons.
I also have good luck with the RAM Universal Spring Loaded mount (I think it is called).
I have little good to say about the X-Grip.
