I worked with a bloke who owned a red one of these. Sounded like no other oriental bike I had or have ever heard. Gorgeous.

I thought it did make it here briefly or maybe it was the TDM or maybe it was just Canada. Anyways. I loved the look then. Now it’s even more cool with the influx of parallel Twins. With the long life span of the SV650 the TRX850 coulda been successful. I still want one!

I like that a lot more than any of the other colors offered so far. That said I think Kawi knocked it out of the park with that model. They made brown look cool. :lol3

Was a TDM in the U.S. I always remember it because of one of the magazine opening lines. Something like "I see you're from another planet" for that unique-for-the-time look:

    Actually still looks pretty cool!

They used a 360° crank like the Kaw 650 twin.

There are always MT-01s for sale up here. Not a lot of them, but they're around, usually priced from ~$6-9K CAD. I never have enough chips in my stack when one shows up nearby... but it's perpetually on my list.

After a certain year they went to 270° crank (which sounds lovely). Also if you're referring to the venerable Ninja 650 lump that's 180° crank.

I really wanted Yamaha to bring over the 900.... My 850 was such a hoot.
If they woulda offered the 900....I seriously doubt that I wouldve now owned 10 different V Stroms since 2003 TDM Bike pics 015.jpg Yamaha TDM 900 02 3.jpg

You could tell when he was comin a mile away.....that sound!

I was hoping the owner would come by and fire it up for me!

The guy who had the Bimota did and it sounded awesome too!

I don't think the 270° hit the U.S., Euro only. My bad on the Ninja.

Yep I believe that change and several others came in '96 which was when they quit bringing it to the US.

Yup, great bikes! First bike I ever owned that was street legal. I also was hoping for the 900 that never came to the US. Mine was a red 92 but I really loved the blue on the 900.

To my eye, the 850 looks a whole lot better than the 900.
The 900 styling is "bulgy" & messy.

    (And red is faster...)

Is that a Suzuki RV in the background? Might be the 90cc - it isn't the 125.

I need a bronx more than I'm willing to admit. MAKE IT, HARLEY!!

I saw a prototype in the flesh once, and was definitely intrigued (couldn't care less about the PA next to it).

Then they canned it for that sportster S abomination! Figures. Bronx is a proper standard naked. Sportster S is, again, a slammed power cruiser with balloon tires... Come on.

favorite bike I ever owned. effortless cruising at 90mph, it always snuck up on me. "I SWEAR I was still doing 65," never appeased the officers.
