I watched the MC Commute video on the R18 this morning. Adam Waheed said the base model with a full tank of gas is 790 pounds! :doh

My Royal Star Venture is just about 900lbs before I sit on it. Full dress tourers are heavy whales. There is a steep price to be paid for style and luxury. It’s measured in dollars and tons.

Steel fenders and billet bits add up. You want light get a plastic bike with smaller pistons.

I also had a Honda Valkyrie that was well over 800 lb without a fairing and trunk... so you're right on that point.

Heck, I currently have a Honda ST1300 that weighs in at a hair over 700 lb DRY... add in fluids, steel frame instead of aluminum, steel fenders instead of plastic, an extra 500 cc...

Yeah... 800 lb wet for a touring cruiser ain't too far from the competition.

    Safety chrome baby, safety chrome!

But yeah, thick steel fenders, tank, heavy steel frame, a bigger drive shaft than some cars I've owned, etc. She is beautiful. She is comfortable. She is a ponderous Yamapotamus with the easy lithe grace of a prime Holstein.

Years before I got Cherry, I test rode a Valkyrie. I was amazed by how quick it accelerated, and really amazed by how poorly it stopped!

My R1250RT has style and luxury and weighs in at around 650 lbs, and that is too much!

Yes, yes... but mine has a cassette deck in the dash, right below the 1950's style speedo. And factory electronic cruise since 1999.

Is that wet weight? I'm surprised it's that high ... has the RT gained weight since being a 1200?

You sure that wasn't you? Here is what one site found:

Valkyrie was definitely a strong stopper. Sure it's old, but so's the Valkyrie. Might need more time riding to get max braking performance, sure ain't gonna be finding stoppies easy on one.

I'm not sure about anything, other than that the Road Star and Vulcan that I rode the same day stopped way better than that Valk. I bought the Road Star; it was in 2001.

Checked out one of these today, sitting next to it's ancestor. 178 bhp, 437 lbs. dry. Looks like a hoot. The new Speed Triple 1200 RS

I love my Road King and have no desire to replace it. But if I win the lottery and buy a second home I’d like to add one of these.
