Thanks Jamie. That's a decent range. Good to hear about the heat shields. Yes, please keep me posted.

I get around 320KM with my stock set up on my 990R. 16x45 gearing. Well, I did before the rebuild. Who knows now?

That seems way too lean Mr Head. You ever got it on a testbench to check air/fuel ratio? You could wreck an engine with a too lean mixture. Mine does aprox 240km on normal tanks and 340 with the extra aux tank when reserve light comes on. A bit the same as Jaimie says.

Nope. Factory Akro map. Does 40 mph in the city with mostly high speed freeway commute, back when I did that. On my travels last August/September I was hovering around 50, no matter where I rode.

Got new battery (and time) so finally managed to go for a short city test ride with new handlebar setup...

That wouldn't get me out of town before a fill-up.

25 offroad. My plugs look ok but my ex is sooty. Bike runs too good to mess with until I change air filters. Waiting on Alon before I mess with jets.

Mine is a 2010 990R, factory Akro map, all the crap removed, but running the stock paper filter and airbox. I tried a sock and snorkel replacement and didn't like how it ran. Plugs look fine, but the gas since the 70's has always made my exhaust black. If I were to do anything as far as turning, I'd go dyno tune it for economy and smoothness at low throttle.

But, that is more money and I'm about to the point of moving out of motorcycles. 45 years is enough, or so my thinking is trending.

Depends on riding style and loads etc. Tend to be quite heavy handed, and ride alot on sand etc. 240km is a good day on the standard setup for me!

Well, since I'm planning an Alaska trip, I reminded myself of how to swap from mph to kph on the 990. Very simple.
Which is probably why I didn't remember and had to look it up in my manual. :lol3:gerg

Then I changed three days of preliminary routing to increase the fun factor. :deal :wings

    Hey Mr Head,

Please keep up us posted on your Alaska trip! It is personal dream/goal of mine to do this trip midterm and would really like to know how your 990 performs. (Especially fuel range wise).

    Regards,
    Mane

    Will do.
I need to burn one more tank of fuel before my new motor 600 mile service. I should have a pretty good idea of fuel range after that. It never cared whether I was loaded for camping or commuting, then that last trip it was doing so well on economy. Even with the run across I-70 in Utah and the two lane stuff I mostly did. Worst economy was the first tank up I-15 to Vegas and into Utah to my first night. I was mostly the usual low to mid 40's.
After that I was mid to upper 40's and even into the low 50's.

I'll keep better notes this trip.
I am getting excited too. :clap:imaposer

    They perform well, as expected.
I went up to Fairbanks a couple of years ago in extremely foul weather without as much as a hickup.
Keep your chain clean and lube it.
Mitas 07 on the rear, lasted from calgary to SF.

Hey Rattis, very encouraging to hear this.

My main concern is mostly about fuel range. I suppose you did carry some fuel containers with you during the trip, or are you one of those lucky kids with Safaris or Rally style thanks??

Speaking of chain, I feel I got a gr8 deal on an eBay chain if anyone else is interested in checking it out. 120 link EK ZVX3 525 chain for $109 to my door.

I've had great luck with these previously. EK has the screw on rivet style links for these chains at $15 bucks.
