First ride (not counting bringing it home from the dealer two weeks ago) Kings Gap Mountain Rd, Rabbittown, Alabama
Haven't been on the street in 8 years, was talking with another rider in July (an inmate here) and he showed me some of his GoPro footage and with the reduction of traffic around these parts, got the bug to get back to the street but in a different way. Started researching Adv bikes. . .always came back to the GS. Then when I started casually looking for what's available and what options I would like it to have, found this one with 3700 miles with everything I would want in options for sale 4 MILES from my house. . . took it as a sign that it was meant to be. . .. First step was taking it back to baseline so pulled the risers and Puig windscreen and then started scouring this forum for advice on "essentials" - plan is to do some road trips with it and build up to getting dirty when necessary and hit the MABDR as my first proper "adventure trip" (have no dirt experience so great one to start on). Also got a multi day trip coming up so had to get it ready for that. Based upon advice from the rider I know and what was in here, settled on the following for now: Barkbuster handguards, upper crash bars (puig to match the bottoms), Clearwater Darlas and Billie light, some amazon Vario case liners (bike came with Vario cases), Altrider Headlight guard, a water proof duffel bag and a new set of tires (the OEM's were already squared off so went with the Anakee Adventures as I wanted to see how a "more" aggressive tread would feel to me on the street and these got very good reviews for their street performance). In the last two weeks since getting the bike, the parts have steadily been trickling in so started adding them and finished off with the lights this weekend (thank you to everyone on here for pointing out that one of their important functions is for being seen during the day - never would have got them because I never even considered riding at night). Last step was adjusting the ergos (raised the seat and the pegs and rolled the handlebar a little lower) and she's good to go for now (only thing I plan to get in the future are soft bags, valve covers and a robust skid plate but that can wait for now while I figure out how to build up the skill sets for off road). Also needed to get new gear for the street so had to pick up a helmet, jacket and pants (am borrowing a set of boots for now) and my track gloves are perfect in these temps right now so now time to put some miles on her!
first picture was yesterday, Argentine pass, second picture was today rampart ridge road area in Colorado. Been working in Denver for 5 weeks, last weekend that I have to roam around the mountains and gravel passes.
It is the standard GS suspension set to max the seat set to the high position plus the beads, I am 6’2 ish !
Packed it for the for upcoming trip, I think I'm taking too much ... Everything is now packed and ready to go ...
Kicked it over, ran for awhile. put on battery tender, bought oil filters. Getting ready for a decent diy service tomorrow and Wednesday.
