Title pretty much says it all. In Omaha it was harleys in the old days, then Kawasaki, now back to hd.not because of merits, but because of the deal the city gets from the dealer.

I m just curious what other cities use. In Europe too.

The State Police have a small fleet of dresser Harleys. Rarely seen on the road for enforcement purposes, they tend to be reserved for escort duty and the like.

I need to get some pics next time their garage is open all lined up. Asheville NC police has some of the sharpest blue on black road kings I've seen. I just love those bikes.

....... One of these days I'll pick up a retired black rk.

Hardly ever see a police bike around northwestern New Jersey.
The nearby town of Roxbury "had" one Road King. I say had
because, a couple of summers ago, the rider had a collision
with a left turning car.....right in front of the police station!!!
Don't know if they ever replaced it.

Our local state troopers (Clinton County, OH) use HD Electra Glides. I work down in Mason, OH and see Mason PD using Electra Glides there also.

My township police department has 4 Harleys. They do look nice in their white and blue colors. Saw all 4 were hanging out at DD one day. Since I live down by the shore they are used a lot in the summer when there are traffic jams going over to the beach. I have seen them flying on the shoulder of the road when traffic was backed up for miles.

TN Highway Patrol headquarters was on my old mail route. Two of their troopers rode HD's on sunny warm days. One of them told me that they only have 17 units for the entire state, mostly for ceremonial duty.

Chattanooga PD has several black and blue HDs, but I dont see them out often. One that i have spoken with said that he rides daily, but he is a crash investigator/reconstructor.

I would like to see more moto officers. I think they would be less insulated from the public.

Very common, and widely used here in Washington. Lots of Hondas, and Harleys, still a few BMWs.

CHP is moving away from HarleyD. Looks like they're going back to BMW & Kawasaki.

Local municipality has BMW's for road duty, and (4) KTM 500 EXC's for their off-road teams. Odd, since there's verrrry little off-road around here. None that's legal anyway.

Our local LE have HD, electra glides and a few roadkings. A nearby agency in DC uses HD sportsters and even little Honda 250 Rebels.
There has been talk of using an electric ZERO bike, but hasn't happened yet.

My agency had one BMW R1100RT (15-20 years ago). But none of the officers seemed to like it. It was kind of annoying. It seemed they didn't like it simply because it wasn't a HD. I've been through police motor school but never joined the motor unit. I was very turned off by the guys and their attitudes toward motorcycling in general. Most were incredibly ignorant about anything beyond HD. Didn't understand why I wanted to wear actual protective gear beyond the Equestrian uniform they wear...

The New Mexico State police have a few Harley Davidsons, although I have never seen one. The Albuquerque Police use BMWs and I have seen too many.

Don't know much about them other than seeing them on the road. I think they might be going back to Harleys because those I see often look to be the newest bikes.

I seem to remember hearing that the BMWs fell out of favor because of overall program costs?

I see CHP around Southern CA primarily on BMW RT's, with the occasional Electra Glide. All that I've ever noticed local PDs on is the RT as well, but I've never paid much attention outside of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.

I love when I see CHP on their RT coming up behind me... they're always splitting lanes faster than I am willing to (AKA faster than their own guidelines), and once I let them pass and get in behind them it is much easier to lane split because the drivers that notice them tend to be extra courteous, moving over to give them more space than they might for a civilian motorcyclist. On a bad traffic day it's like the parting of the Red Sea.

I was passed, and then followed, a pair of police BMW's a year or so back who were obviously on a training run, second rider had an instructor bib, and it was fascinating to see how they used road positioning to 'make rapid progress' without appearing hurried or causing other road users to have to take actions. Its one thing to read about it and another to have it demonstrated.
I had to turn off after a few miles, probably a good thing as speed limits, out of villages, were definitely 'advisory' only.

I live in South Korea, which has a national police force, as well as a metro police force in Seoul, and possibly in other large cities. The Seoul police ride police Electra-glides -- I've seen one going around with a sidecar on it. The national police used to ride Harley, but started transitioning to BMW RT's about a decade ago. While I lived in Seoul I saw a Honda Gold Wing in police livery, with "TEST" decals on it. I have a picture of that bike somewhere in my collection of photos. *update* found the pics.
