In Reno they ride BMW's but twice now I have seen a much smaller police bike, but haven't been close enough to see what it is. Sparks seems to ride HD's.

The Nevada Highway Patrol run both BMW's and HD's, as do the sheriff I believe.

Or dusting off old mothballed bikes? A few days ago I was passed by an LAPD Hex-Head BMW.

It's all Harleys of some sort hereabouts (Indianapolis).

And they dress in the whole '70s Village People equestrian look; pisspot yarmulke, super-kinky super-tall leather horse riding boots, tight horse riding pants, short-sleeved polyester shirt (sun's out, guns out), macho man pornstache, mirrored sunglasses, and cruiserface scowl. Zero actual protection except maybe the horse riding boots.

And of course, there's a contingent of bicycle and even horse-mounted cops downtown. I know I once saw cops on electric scooters, and I bet they have IMPD pogo sticks somewhere.

Riding to work one wintry but dry 17 degree day, I saw a couple of Honda ST1300s up ahead on the interstate that looked odd. Their insulated gear had police insignia. I was curious so I crept closer...

Each ST was fitted with a bizarre training wheels arrangement out back; two wheels on outriggers that kept the bikes bolt upright. Of course, this is a rotten idea dreamed up by some idiot who's never ridden or seen a motorcycle, and the rear ends were skittering all over the place with every little bump. It all seemed pretty miserable.

I suspect the training wheels were part of a test; some muckety-muck thought these things would keep officers from falling off or something and allow them to use motorcycles in cold weather.

Unfortunately, I had to exit before I could get close enough to see what department it was.

In the Las Vegas area, there are four main jurisdictions with motorcycles. Las Vegas Metro, North Las Vegas PD, Henderson PD and Nevada Highway Patrol. Las Vegas Metro and Henderson both use HD Electra Glide Police exclusively although Henderson may be switching to BMW R1200TP. North Las Vegas may currently have a mix of BMW R1200TP and HD Electra Glide Police although I cannot remember the last time I saw a North Las Vegas officer on an HD. NHP was exclusively on HD until the last couple of years and has started to switch over to the R1200TP. Vegas Metro tested a BMW back in the early 2000s but stuck with the Harley. I'm sure much of that was tradition/political. Vegas Metro also uses some form of dual sport, probably a DR400 or Yamaha's similar version of that for some of the more densely populated areas. Mainly the strip area commands, both Fremont Street area and the southern strip. Pretty sure they even tested Segways a number of years back, but haven't seen one in a very long time.

A couple of days ago I was behind a couple of Idaho State Police moto-officers. One was on a Harley and the other on a BMW. Side by side all the way, even when turning into a gas station.

You all got nothing on us here in Portugal !!!

    There are two Police forces

The local city police (PSP) used to have some realy cool Yamahas XJ 550 with single seats in the late 70's and 80's then went to 50 cc yamahas for in town and FJR and Paneuropean for bigger distance stuff.
They now use BMW GS's (two up)

    701824.jpg

The Naciocal Guard (GNR) who does highway patrol ansd such used to have BMW RT's

    3yh1a34gzwfhoycytofmu1wkrm2.jpg

and now have gone to Pan-Europeans and Yama FJR's

Tulsa PD uses some kind of big harley. I attended a riding course they hosted back in 2014, those guys could ride.

    OHP uses big BMW's, I think RT1200's?
