Fixing up a house totally sucks, in many ways, including expense, and what it does to your whole mental attitude. It is terrible.

Fixing up a motorcycle is almost the complete opposite. It is therapy. Sounds like you will get there.

Yep. I just went to one Thursday for an old friend. 47 years old with 5 kids. Brain cancer. Dude should have had another 40 years.

But he totally appreciated life, and because of that he kept living and having fun all the way to the end. There's a lesson right there in that.

    Yep ;

Working helps to focus your mind and pushes back the daemons .

Some years ago I wasn't able to walk and bought a dilapidated 1967 Honda CL90, my brother brought it home for me and I sat on a milk crate, tooke it 2/3 the way apart, fixed all those little niggly things old Hondas always have wrong, re assembled it and was very calm and pleased when finished .

Eventually I was able to ride it, in fact I still have it but no longer want it and need to sell it on .

Once again to - day I did my Motocycle therapy by riding my 1970 Honda CT90k2 for the $tarbuck$ where I get my InterNet access....... it's always nice to be able to ride, I'm going to drag out my 1975 BMW R60/6 and clean it up and ride with an OnLine bud this coming Sunday .

Point being : keep taking those baby steps ! they work and you are worth the effort, make no mistake .

9 hours of testing on Wednesday + 2 hours of commuting and I've pretty much slept since. It absolutely kicked my ass but they are so much more thorough than the last one.
These are QME tests. I still have 6 more hours to go back to in a couple of weeks.

Good news is that these 2 doctors that I saw were specialists in TBI and were very supportive. They tell me that 5 years is the number they work with for significant improvement with 20 as nearing the end of measurable.

As opposed to the neurologists of the past, former psych, neuropsych and 'testing', they are strongly convinced that I do have TBI and that the former dr's have failed me on that...
It means I may be getting proper care soon!

They pushed me so hard with one test, my hands 'clawed up' like you see on some paraplegic cases which is leading them to believe there may be some minor cord injuries as well. That could explain the lack of fine motor control in my hands. It's also been validated through testing that my left side took a lot of the damage, as I've believed all along (from the pain) but my right side shows 20% slower than my left. That's neat to me because I've felt my left hand was much slower.

Anyhow, good thing I had a 4 day weekend. A little reading, a little bicycling for exercise/endorphins and a lot of sleeping.

I rode the bicycle over to my old home and took my daughter to the neighborhood pool where I got to spend several hours with her until I needed to go back to sleep. I'm not a fan of public pools, so I watched from the sidelines and read but it was still nice to spend time with her. Especially since it's not "my weekend"

You needed a medical professional to finally hear you and give you some proper insight to the extent of your injuries and some hope that there is actually a treatment to get you better. I'm happy for you, man!

Dude! I'm super happy to read this!

Where were these Dr.'s when you were first looking for care? Are they related to that TBI website that wasn't really up to date?

Maybe it would be worth having a discussion with them to let them know how difficult it was for you and your friends to find you help when you were in the early stages.

A little info or marketing may go a long way toward getting people in need, the help and validation they deserve.

    Awesome update Rhubarb!

That is so good that you finally found the pros that can diagnose and help you. Topped off with time spent with your kiddo, awesome TRC!

Without getting too deep into the details, they are court ordered Drs due to my insurance woes. They both are awesome and when this is further down the road, I'd be happy to share their info publicly; in fact, one runs a TBI support group and advocates for people with their insurance companies. The other drives an Aston Martin convertible, so I'm guessing he's pretty expensive :lol3

Meanwhile, if someone is in the Bay Area and is in need of good folks to see, I'd be happy to share via PM.

    For recording and reference purposes...

My testing was 7/3 and it took me until 7/10 to recover from it. Crazy stuff... I had a headache, blurred vision and extreme fatigue that resulted in sleeping away most of the last 7 days :lol3

I've found myself becoming a helmet evangelist... preaching to anyone about the benefits of a good helmet, regardless of the sport.
I wish I could stop... I need to stop. It's just short of being a vegan!

I hear you. I'm working in PA where there is no helmet law and I cringe when I see these people without their kid .

Most vegans out there don't preach to anyone, I'm one of them.
