No mountains or distant vistas, but a nice Friday none the less out in the Osceola at Deep Creek.

Enjoyed a Father/Daughter KTM day together.

I got these LED lights on clearance a while back. They are red, and ridiculously bright. Today I decided to do something with one of them. My idea was to mount it on top of the top box as an overhead stop light. But Tai decided that was a bit too tacky looking, so I recommended this mounting position. The problem with these "sport bikes" is that the top case sticks out past the brake light by a foot or so, covering it up somewhat. I got some dimmer switches and some black stickers to tame these lights down, I have installed both, so it is adjustable. I don't want to blind people. It also has a strobe, inline after the dimmer switch. It strobes, flashes, then goes solid.

We don't ride at night, but it is nice to have an option to dim these lights down, just in case. It's a work in progress, but for now the dimmer switch is mounted under the pillion seat.

Temps are cool enough (~80°) that it's pleasant riding weather after the sun goes down. Looking forward to autumn...

Tai got me the matching Givi Trekker Outback top box for my FJ. Installed it today, pretty sweet! I think all that it needs now it some better foot pegs.

I didn't like the separate side brackets and front bracket for mounting the Givi plate. So I took it back apart and cut some aluminum flat stock I had lying around. Now the plastic mounting plate is not the only thing holding those three brackets together, it seems stronger.

Now I need a supplemental tail and brake lights, the box covers up the factory tail light nicely. I have no idea what the yellow shit is, its on the radiator guard too.

First hare scramble done. Trail was fun, but holy smokes was it hot. Extra time invested into fitness this summer helped a lot, charged from around 18th to 5th, with 4th in sight, only to make a blunder trying to avoid a choppy rut and ended up in the tall brush and 5th place just rode right by. Our goal was top 7, so a 6th is okay and we’ll continue to work on sprint speed to make more progress on first lap. Riding the 100 vs a lot of 300 2t and 350/450 4t took a while to adapt, but managed to pick them off one by one as the trail got rougher. Momentum and rolling corner speed will determine success vs failure as the season progresses.

Looking good there, motomike! I think I asked once before, but don’t remember: what day/class do you race? My son normally races pre-modern B on Saturday, but this season he’s still recovering from a broken ankle.

How do you “do” the race weekend? Do you camp at the tracks? Stay somewhere local? Or just show up for race day? My son just shows up for race day, but man! there are always lots of campers!! :thumbup

I started last year on Saturday’s in sportsman 1 since I was away for about 4 years, but moved to Sunday’s in 200C, and now this year I am Sunday AM for 35+C, but am very close to being moved out into B. As far as race weekend program, it varies. We have kids and dogs to think about, so anything around or under 3 hours, we just suck it up and leave the house around 4am Sunday and hustle home. Usually one kid will come with us, but since it was so hot yesterday, they opted for grandma time at the pool.

Outside that, we either bring our VW van to camp or slum it with the truck tent. It’s $20 for the whole weekend, which you can’t beat, and we always make it fun. We have aspirations for a camper, but all of that is on hold for a year or so as we decide what is best, either a newer van to convert or buy a modest pull behind. Having an aggressive HOA makes it challenging with storage fees.

Camping is fun, just have to have your program dialed so when get there it’s easy to setup and breakdown.

Put some new grips on the Lil Versys. Have you ever seen vibration dampeners like these? What a pita to get out! Didn't know I was that strong! :D

Went for a little spin on my old Honda SL125, and ran this over before I even saw him. :cry

Red touches yellow, kill a fellow. Coral snake. Highly venomous, sez Google.
