I don't like Wells Fargo. My other options are Northrim and First National, I think. Is there a credit union I can join?

Back home I was very happy with my local Credit Union.

Although I don't know if you'll have the same experience here, back there, they know my name and are always happy to help me out. Also most times they have good loans and other financial things they offer to members.

In fact when I forget to put my credit card payment in the mail on time I just need to call them up and they are always happy to transfer funds for me. I've never had them give me attitude for taking time out of thier days.

I agree Wells Fargo sucks.......I am looking for a new bank too. Gonna follow this thread.

I had Alaska USA loose some of my money. They were gonna do all kinds a bad stuff to me including screwing up my credit rating for missing several loan payments. I had to blow a whole day going to Anchorage and taking care of it. When I proved to them the screw up was theirs I didn't so much as a "sorry about that" or anything. That was a long time ago.......maybe they have figured out how to count money by now.

Haven't had any problems with AK USA after something like 18+ years of doing business with them. Not sure if Wheeldog's issues were one off, but he should have gotten some serious butt-kissin regardless. Wells Fargo simply sucks, even though they carry my mortgage.

For regular ole personal finance stuff... checking acct and car loan type stuff, www.cu1.org can't be beat. I joined them in about '74 when they were the teacher's credit union. Morphed a couple times since but they're still top drawer. I had an unpleasant experience with AlaskaUSA and won't let my nickels rest their heads there again. Sounds like a couple others might've had similar experiences.

I do all my personal and business banking at Credit Union 1. Alaska USA is the largest, but my experience with them has been negative. Fee driven and they botched my mortgage. Just my two cents. If I a mid size business i would look hard at Northrim.:freaky

I have an active account at Alaska USA, not real impressed. I've had a couple issues and they fixed them quickly enough. I also have accounts at MVFCU (Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union). I have never even had change counted incorrectly. I have had 3 mortgages, and 5 or 6 auto/motorbikes financed through MVFCU. Not one glitch.

    Banks ?

Northrim and First National of Alaska, are both fine institutions. Don't prefer banks actually.

Well, I opened an account at Alaska USA today. They seemed competent enough. We'll see.

I also use Wells Fargo, because the smoldering remains of Alaska National Bank of the North (yes I'm that old) was bought by National Bank of Alaska, which in turn was bought by Wells Fargo. The nice thing about Wells is all the no-fee ATM's in the lower 48 when traveling.
