I've noticed it as well. Working downtown I come across a lot of travelers but this year just a couple.

While the largest percentage of motorcyclists I've seen on the Glenn Hwy have been locals (or renting bikes with Alaska plates) there have probably been at least 100 through Glennallen so far this season. And for some reason it seems I spotted the first long-distance travelers a week or so earlier this year than in most past years.

Maybe gas prices, and the lower rank of the $US$ vs the loonie have had an effect? :dunno

I'm not so sure the overall volume is going to be less this year, but based on tire reservations that we've had people seem to be planning their trips later this year. :scratch

I'll bet a lot of it has to do with the weather in the lower 48. Rain over here, tornadoes over there, wettest month on record, etc... We're doing ok with it ourselves on the way up, but everyone we talk to says if we had come a week or two earlier we would be waterlogged.

I spend 8 to 10 hours a day on the road (truck driver). Have only seen a handful of loaded down bikes. I usually see lots more this time of year. I have also noticed a lack of out of state RV's. Usually trip over lots of them.......not so this year.:deal
