IRC TR8 knobby on the front, shinko sr 244 dual sport on the back, one size up both.
You really need an aggressive tire on the front in the sand.

The wife and I have now made it from Seattle to Ecuador on our XT's. The bikes are still running great, but some accessories haven't done as well. Our Immix racing racks especially have problems, and we've had to weld them back together twice now. Luckily every town in Latin America has a welder, and they all work for cheap. If you're doing a similar trip, be warned that the XT does not exist in Colombia, and you cannot find sprockets there, which is of course when we really started to need them. Luckily getting them in Ecuador was pretty simple.

We met up with a Swiss couple taking the Stahlratte as well

Unloading the bikes. This was a long day, filled with officials being bribed, and lots of waiting around, but we finally made it to South America.

Colombian drivers are really bad. Like a midget at a urinal, you've got to stay on your toes.

I'll try to post more later, but the internet isn't super reliable here.

Went for a awesome 100km run through National Parks & Pine Forests today. Only came across one car, who took a wrong turn & had to turn around (poor chap). Plenty of wildlife out & about, Roos Wallabies & sorry to say i ran over a snake (sorry Mr snake), it slithered right across my path & i only saw it at the last second.

Can anyone tell me what year the XT got fuel injection and since then have their been any updates worth looking for beyond bold new colors?

Happy New Year XT250 riding inmates! Expect my XT Momo to see 40K miles this coming Spring! It was -3 degrees F overnight here and now with snowy icy roads. Trying to patiently await warmer weather.

Nice work bender. I did something similar to that but you did a better job of bending your tubing . I had to bend mine using one of those hand operated tubing benders. Mine is done in three separate pieces so you have options . I like your instrument panel but I think you are going to break it off the first time you take a serious spill. :muutt
PS.... looks like you made your own hand guards as well. What did you use to bend or form the counsel ? Your nick suggests you may be some kind of metal worker?

I'm actually some kind of plastic worker, but do dabble in metal.

The tubes were bent using a hand operated bender made in my shop. I was able to get nice bends by making precise dies on my home built cnc mill.

The instrument panel is stronger than the one previously mounted on the bars. The previous panel didn't break after countless spills, so this one should be ok, but I'll keep trying.

The hand guards are off the shelf items and I can't remember the brand. I only made the plastic wind blocks for them.

selling my '09 XT250 with almost 5K for $2800. handguards, skid plate and taken care of. bought a bigger commuter with great mileage and just don't ride gravel roads much anymore. I have access to 100+ acres of land for playing on my trials bike, so it's hard to justify keeping it, though I SWORE it was the one bike I'd never sell. I don't have it in the fleamarket but it's on CL Lincoln NE if anyone's interested. note the HT racks and Givi bags are sold. too cold to take new pics right now! thanks for any interest.
