Rattlesnake Bay/Desoto NF is probably your best bet....

Bethel motorcycle trails off of hwy 15. forrest road 426 I believe (free). There are bicycle trails on the same road but different trailhead. ATV trails off of Marvin williams rd (5 or 10 dollar fee). Rattlesnake bay is probably better but a little farther (I think there is a fee but not sure how much).

Fee is $10 a day at Rattlesnake Bay, drop box similar to a state run campground. Call before you haul to make sure the trails are open. 601-528-6180

Rule of the park is if the gates closed at the trail head parking lot, trails are closed. Calling always worked for me. It is typically a recording.

I had my bike apart for maintenance. It took a little while but, I got it pieced back together with no left over parts.

Then I rode over to the Best Buy.
Then I rode up around Goodman to pay my respects to a long time friend.

Then rode up to visit a while with mom.

It was a great day to get out and ride.

Rode about 2 hours in DeSoto at bethel national Forest today. Nothing overly difficult but so Sandy and twisty I feel like I did about 2 hours of CrossFit from keeping the bike from getting away from me.

Did some exploring out in DeSoto NF. Rode some fire roads near Camp Shelby and then checked out rattlesnake bay ATV trails. Rattlesnake had a nice mix of two-track and single track. Will definitely be back to explore some more.

The back roads through the Desoto Forest had almost nobody on them. There are also no gas stations. I made a wrong turn or two as the GPS cable seems to be faulty, so I tried to just guess which way to go. Not much in the way of photos with the flip-phone I use.

Kingsized and I took off Saturday morning and decided to do a little bit of riding. Both of us needed to get some helmet time and decided to go try the levee's in La. Off we go, bought some Lottery Tickets once we got across the river, and then headed over to get on the Levee. They we perfect and only had to back track a couple times do to locked gates. We got pretty close to Lake Village before the northern and west horizon was starting to look a bit ugly and we decided to turn back south and go get something to eat. While we were eating it started raining and after we finished eating we took off heading south. We did not outrun the rain and it got really heavy at a couple times with 2-6 inches of water on the road over at Tallulah. We stopped and put some rain gear on and back off we go. Finally got ahead of the rain when we got back in Mississippi. We split up over around the Trace and I hotfooted it over towards the house. I stopped at Brandon to remove my raingear and low and behold ----who pulls up beside me-----------DQ's lovely Bride---- I was on the phone to him when she pulled up. LOL

All in all I turned around 350 miles-----------------great helmet time and great company.

    Just a side note----------

Kingsized told me of a motorcycle accident Saturday over around his way Flowood/Madison/Ridgeland area

and talking to my wife I found out that the casualty was a man that runs the IT Dept. for her main company.

He was a pretty good egg---That comes from Mrs. KW, and she is usually spot on.

Last week in Madison County was particularly deadly for motorcyclists unfortunately.
First there was one collision with a deer near the 463 & 22 intersection on Friday night, then the frontal collision Saturday afternoon on 463 in Madison where a pickup veered into the opposite lane taking out 4 bikes, killing two and seriously injuring another. :-(

I've noticed people tend to ride the LA side levee. Is it smoother over there?

Mississippi levee is leased to private land owners and is mostly posted with no trespassing.

the La side is more open with a few locked gates ---some is posted--and permission is required ---
no riding during the hunting seasons because of people having their blinds on the levee

I am trying to get permission from US Army CoE to make a ride up from Vicksburg to as far north as they will let me
that is an ongoing project---but oh boy will it be cool---

That's not exactly true. You CAN ride the levee. I've talked with Peter Nimrod of the Levee Board about this. I posted something a while back on this in another thread. You can call the office. There's only a few people that work there. http://www.msleveeboard.com/
