Lots of retired artillery in the park aimed to the north presumably to ward off the cheese eating Wisconsinites.

Rode to Martinsville where Draper and I removed the alarm immobilizer from my K1200LT rig. First pic shows where it was, 2nd pic shows where it is.

Took the back way from Eagle Nest down to Mora, NM. Aspen groves are fascinating any time of the year.

Never know what one might see near the aspens.

Typical New Mexican picket fence along the front yard.

Stopped to visit with this roadside barber of donkeys. Suggested I don't park downwind as all the loose hair he was combing off was flying that way. Said he did the "de-thatching" every summer but only on a windy day. Learned that there are three different sizes of donkeys, as his were much bigger than the ones I'd seen in the mountains of Mexico. Said his were mammoth donkeys and would most likely out live him, though they were already 20+ years old. His second donkey waits inside the corral for its turn.

Riding gods were smiling today: stopped by road construction, waiting for the pilot car. Got the last bit of shade for the 15 minute wait.

I never did trust the immobilizer. Learned that it has a battery that when it goes bad, you are stuck. Shouldn't be a roblem now.

Today it reached 69 degrees, rode north from Eagle Nest, up over Bobcat Pass, down into Red River. Looking up main street in town.

    DSC01490.jpg

From there on to Questa and the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Located in a remote corner of northern New Mexico, where the Red River coming from New Mexico's tallest mountain, Wheeler Peak joins the frigid waters flowing down from the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado. Meeting up at place called La Junta.

    DSC01519 (1).jpg

La Junta, means joining or coming together in Spanish, is the widest and deepest part of the 1885 mile long Rio Grande Gorge. The Red River of the left joins the Rio Grande on the right at the end tip of the land that looks like a dragon's tail.

    DSC01510.jpg

Being closed to campers and a Monday, had most of the area to my self. The security ranger said he was as lonely as the Maytag repair man.

Remember the New Mexican picket fence from yesterday? Well, this guy ran out of native pickets. So being resourceful, he rounded up discarded or one off skis to finish his fence. Reminds me of the colorful feathers of a war bonnet
