20190613_085227.jpg 20190613_085239.jpg So bottoming everything up and there's this, starter motor? But if it is what does it attach to? Also the 2nd picture I've got a brown wire attached to left-hand post of starter motor,(thick Brown wire coming from left hand side of engine) I know I forgot to take photos.

looks as if it's a negative cable about 100 mm in length, therefore it should go from the starter mounting to the frame. The other thick negative cable (470 mm) should go from the starter mount to the battery. Maybe you've installed the 470 where the 100 should be?

That's what I was thinking, where abouts on chassis though.

Think the same as mentioned above, grounding starter motor to the chassis...

It should be in the parts fiche on RMATV and elsewhere if you can't figure out where it goes. I don't remember anything connecting the starter to the frame on my 950, but there is a ground strap on the front right bottom corner of the engine that looks like that.

Just had a look gearhead but no joy with rmatv and another couple, they have a general parts fiche but nothing with the part on. It's only 100 odd mm so it must be near as one end goes on the starter , it difinately is the CHASSIS it goes to?

It doesn't really matter where it goes on the frame, anywhere will do, as long as the contact to good. It's there to ensure a good reliable earth to the frame from the engine. The engine has a reliable earth, at the starter motor mounting, directly from the negative of the battery.

Not sure what you have been doing to your bike.
But post on rear of starter is the earth and that goes across the engine. (Sorry can't remember where it secures, but look like it is in place)
Second long earth cable is possible the one from the battery that goes up right hand side of engine and is secured to the front post on starter motor.
The short earth is possibly the one that connects to the starter relay and then is connected to the bottom of the engine near the clutch cover.

Zimtim I've got the one on that comes onto the central post of the starter motor, also the long negative from battery to right hand starter motor post,( where bolt goes through to attach to motor) it's the lead/earth from the other post,( where bolt goes through)? The really annoying thing is,( apart from not labelling or photos) is that it's in a set shape as happens with thick wire when it's been in a set position for a while but no matter what position I put it in it doesn't line up with anything on the frame , I'm starting to think it doesn't belong there? Oh aye electrics.

    It's a 990 thing.
There's a tab on the frame near the starter motor where the short ground cable goes.
This tab is missing on 950 frames, as well as the short cable.

See in the top of the picture where it bolts to the chassis in between the engine mount arms on 990's

Right CB , glad you posted that as looking at yours I can see both starter motor posts, if you don't mind where are the 2 leads going to from the starter motor posts?

One goes to the chassis as above, and the other goes directly to battery negative, #5 (being 470), and #12 (being 100)
The positive terminal on top of the starter goes to the starter relay
