San Antonio seems to be better than the other big cities, but I never pass through enough to swear to it. Fort Worth used to be okay, but that was decades ago. Houston is not too bad if you can get used to having someone tailgating you at 70. I was staying just north of the Loop in Chicago a couple of months ago and saw three guys on naked bikes weaving through 3 mph traffic. If I lived in Chicago, I'd have a Vespa for errands.
Totally agree. If you are in the south Houston area and want a nice coastal place to ride try Galveston past the main public beach and where the sea wall ends. Sometimes you can catch it where you are the only person for miles. The local food is good also.
I'm originally from Fort Worth and it's STILL better than Dallas or Arlington. (Thanks Jerry!) But I take your point.
Bought my Triumph from Marvin Bell's BSA shop near down town Fort Worth a long, long time ago. I guess the run around Holiday Park on Lake Benbrook is still as much fun as it ever.
Really the only bad parts of Ft Worth are north 820 between NE mall and 35 and 35 north from down town to 820. Everywhere else is smooth sailing a majority of the time.
I-35 E from south of Dallas all the way north to Denton just generally blows all the time, but the pre-/post-workday rushes (6am-9am and 4pm-7pm) is like fleeing the damn apocalypse (sans zombies). Most of the suburban sprawl I'm embedded in (FM 1171/Main St. -- Flower Mound and Lewisville) is an absolute madhouse during the morning/afternoon school blitz and lunchtime. I'll probably add to the list as the traffic itself bugs the shit outta me.
Austin.Just like Dallas except more tattoos and nose rings and ex-Californians. And traffic caused by all the above.
Texas has a few places NOT to go ..... but a BAD day in this state is better than a GOOD day most other places
I couldn't agree more. Luckily those two cover alot of territory. Still, unless your a pirate, stay away from Luchenbach on a weekend.
I always make this a stop on my way through, four or five times a year. Noth'n like a Shinner Bock under the "Big Oak" before continuing on my way. After the ATGATT comes off, I look pretty much like all the other RUBs posing, long hair and long full beard (no tats) and even get along pretty well with most of them. I get a kick out of the looks and sometimes even comments I get as I walk over to my ugly motorbike, void of chrome and noise, dawn the gear and depart. Priceless... .
