Part 1 of 2, WOW, that was awesome, White Rim is an absolute must for all dual sporters. Ill keep the words down as hell Im not even sure what the name of most of the places we stopped at were. Here we are at the meeting point, Archview Resort, there were 4 of us just 1 hasnt arrived yet. Thad, Eric, Mike, and myself hit the trail. Headed to the Park. Those were pretty boring werent they? Well that all changes NOW. Going to be down there soon. Going to get there going down that. At the bottom looking back up. Not sure what the names is of the next few pics, just awesome. Neat arch that you can walk across on. End of Part 1
Start of Part 2 Ok we were making good time when we hit a nice strait away and I was just a cruising along and hit some whoops and bottomed out, I know I hit hard but didnt think anything about it. Good thing there was a vantage point over the next hill so I stopped to take a pic and after I took that pic I decided to take a look and oh shit oil. I noticed it before the engine was overheated and she still had oil in her until here as all of it was on the ground now. I got her on the side pulled the skid plate as the oil bolt was still tight, then we noticed a big O hole in the bottom of the crankcase. I had 5 minute JB weld so I got my rag wet with gas and cleaned off as much oil as I could then we caked on JB weld. This got the hole plugged, well good enough to finish the trip, well after that we had another problem, I lost all my oil and only had a ½ quart, luckily they rode to the camp ground and the guys with the vans were lifesavers as they had oil. Well we got her oiled up and got going again. Here we are checking to see if the leak was plugged and what a place to check it. Then this is our first real hill climb and it was fun. At the top. Now we have to go back down on the other side. Good place to stop and take pictures. Finely the river. THE END I do have lots of videos, I have to wait to I get home to upload them and thatll be a separate thread for WRT Videos.
Just did the WRT with my bro-in-law (CJ59) a couple of weeks ago, one of the most amazing rides I've ever done, we did it in one day on a pair of GS1200s. Long day, worn out, worth every mile! Great pics. The beer and steak tasted great that night!
The White Rim Trail IS amazing isn't it? Looks like you picked a nice scenic spot to break down. Thanks for the great pictures. Q~
I broke in a new Suzuki DRZ400E on the White Rim Trail, starting out on the Shafer Trail, in 2000. I agree, it's a ride that should be on every dualsporters "bucket list".
When were you there? I'm heading out there in a couple of weeks and have been watching the weather reports with some anxiety...
Thanks for a welcome break from work... love the pics of WRT! Glad you made it out safe after the loss of oil - that could have been a very long day if you ended up having to get a tow out of there.
I loved that loop and breaking down anywhere on the loop is a nice scenic spot . I can't wait till next year, won't be as many pics as this year, it was my first time and i wanted memorys to remember .
Got there April 26 and didn't leave til April 29th, i got 3 days of riding, next year i'm staying 7+ days . I also was watching the weather before i got there, Monday and Tuesday were perfect and it was just windy on Wednesday and rained the day i left . It would have been ok if i was staying longer as i would have rested that day anyways, i had so much fun i was pooped after the 3rd day of riding and would need a rest day. Good luck, have fun and i sure hope the weather holds out for you.
Yes, what a fun and beautiful ride. I soloed it in '05 on my XR, felt like a "speck in the universe." Love that feeling. I posted a thread here after, it's still here somewhere.
