Title says it all. I'm about to pull the trigger on a scoot.

Not by a long way. At a shade over 18 months old, mine is only just coming up to 27K. I blame it spending so much time in the dealership/garage (must be a total of 5 months it has been in the shop during that time).

5 months? Issues? That's longer than any mortal should put up with.
What year? Should I worry about a 2010 model?

About 20 month and 32K miles on the bike without real hickups. Clutch failure at 9K miles and fixed under warranty (known factory issue).

It is a machine and like all mechanical thing there are issues here and there but I wouldn't put much into it and just buy one. There is always the case of somebody getting a bad bike (no matter what brand you buy).

I can think of three people over 50,000 miles on theirs. One had to have his cam chain replaced but the other two have not had any problems.

I'm only at 13k miles so it sure isn't me.

From what I have read the alternators seem to fail often between 50.000-80.000 kilometers.

To be fair, only about 1 month of that was BMW's fault. The last 4 months was entirely my own fault for chucking it down the road, winding up in hospital and then my insurers' for dragging their feet. Oddly enough, it has behaved perfectly since. I think my rough love must have finally broken its spirit and made it decide to play ball.
