Why is Honda using Marcelo in its ads? Is Brazil a target market?
So which one of you geniuses is going to start an aftermarket titanium fuel tank company and run Acerbis out of business?
I think it is the small size and 'up-top' positioning (on the aluminum perimeter frame) that makes the CRF450L tank simple enough to create from two welded-together sheets of stamped titanium.
Good luck making something like this out of titanium for cheap:
205 on the titanium tank......
The only thing that would make that gas tank cooler would be if they machined it out of "billet aluminum"!! Or, wait, wait! I know! Machine it out of billet titanium or billet unobtainum!! Now that would make it worthy of going on a KTM!
You had me at diesel.
I know this got hashed out already. I'm not poking that hive. But on another note, can you have a plastic tank on a DOT legal bike?
I know we plate dirt bikes that came with plastic tanks, but are the OEM's allowed to do this off the line?
Don’t KTM EXC bikes come with plastic tanks and are DOT legal?
BMW F800GS, F650GS, G650X all have plastic tanks. I'd venture to guess that even the R1200GS is a plastic tank.
Just a few examples of 50 state street legal bikes. Note that I made mention they used a thicker walled tank for their EXC Line of bikes. I assume to meet Evap constraints as well as survive crashes?
Well, that answers that question. Thanks guys.
Re; horsepower, as per ADV Pulse -
4. It Makes a Lot More Than 24 Horsepower
There was a rumor going around that this bike only made 24 hp and we can say that is completely false. It looks like a European Honda site mistakenly posted the CRF250L’s hp number for the 450L’s. We asked Honda for a publishable HP number for the 450L and they said it was in the 40s. For dirt bikes, Honda (all OEM’s actually) don’t give out HP numbers since there are so many variables in dyno’ing the bikes. Also, Honda added that there is only a 4 hp difference between the X and L and that the cams and cam timing are exactly the same.
Plus, it swells and gets heavier as it ages. That’s the last thing a 25 hp motorcycle needs.
In Honda warehouses across US.... they sat silently.
A 25hp 450cc motor would get too hot for a plastic tank. This is why they must make it out of supermegatitanium.
I haven’t seen this posted yet.
I was pleased to see they call out an actual Cush hub instead of just saying a cush sprocket.
Seriously, it only makes 24 hp?
all this sophistry just to say that Honda would rather use a preexisting part.
Hey Itsuki make 9000 gas tanks instead of 4000 this year!
WR250R is steel (OEM).
