im going to work with a custom radiator manufacturer to produce unicorn dust (aka: 950SE radiators) this fall (sometime between September to November). Who wants one? I know, I know...everyone is going to say "it depends on cost..." But let's face it, we don't have much choice apart from the occasional 990smr radiator that comes up on eBay. These will be PERFECT fitting replacements and will be produced in the EU. I am meeting with these guys in August and I'd like to get a sense of how many with your help please. Keep this thread going to keep a rough idea of volumes and any wishes people want incorporated into the replacement.

Just keep in mind that adding capacity is not very realistic: we don't have more vertical space for additional rows and we don't have much width to play with either given that you want space between it and the tank. I had looked at adding capacity by increasing the thickness (measured front of the bike to the back) at the top third since there's no interference with the front wheel there but it became too challenging to design a radiator with two different thicknesses of a curved core...

I take it that it is no longer possible to order a new radiator from KTM(?).
In that case you can add me to your list.
Any chance of a new improved protector to replace the flimsy and buckling stock item?

I've got a guy in Asia that will make me beautiful new ones for about a $250 retail. But I just don't see the demand right now...

Why switch to a custom radiator? Any problems with the stock one ?

First good skid plate hit off road (depending on skid plate choice) will destroy the bottom rows of the radiator. If its repairable, you get it repaired. If not, the bike is gonna sit. Same for a good nap. The side of the tank will smash the rad destroying several rows. I destroyed 4 radiators in my SE ownership. 2 from skid plate hits and 2 from dirt naps. Granted, I only used it mostly off road and when I crash its usually spectacular.

That's cheaper than what I can get them made for in Europe. If you do proceed Ken, please sign me up for one.

If $250 radiators were around 6 months ago I would have bought 3-4 to keep on the shelf. I stopped riding my SE’s hard when I used my last new radiator and went to order one for a backup and they were no longer produced. It’s “one” of the reasons I sold my SE’s.

Ken: if you can provide some details and timing, I think you'd have a winner here...happy to promote it on my Facebook pages as well to get commitments from people.

:-) Better safe than sorry if you ride your bike a bit hard. I look at this as both a way to avoid spoiling a season and an added value to the package if I should decide to sell the bike.

:D Exactly. It does not rain if you bring an umbrella and you don't need a backup unless you forget to take it.
