    Gus,

I've done the Denali run a couple of times and its a 600 mile round trip from Anchorage. In nice round numbers 200 miles to Cantwell, 135 accross the Denali, 70 from Paxon to Glenallen and 190 from Glenallen back to Anchorage. Last time I rode it the trip meter showed 620 from Jewel Lake and Dimond and back. Its a great day trip if the weather is good. I don't think I'll be able to join you this time though. It looks good for the run to McCarthy and over the Denali in a couple of weeks though. Have a good ride!

will keep me from joining you Gus. I leave for Laguna on Wednesday night...have to take care of sh&% before taking off. Including, of course, getting my bike packed for McCarthy. I get back the day before the trip.
Have fun and be safe guys. See you on the road to Kennicott. jb

    No prob.
I think I will have fun, even if KL5A didn't show. So there is not a worry. I am really looking forward to a great ride. Another adventure.
Have a safe travel experience to the race. You do know we expect pics and an update upon your return,,,,, right?
Have fun for us all who can't afford the time to be away.

    It's always a great ride!

I don't know if I'll be there, but I might be going to Glenallen to see a man about a TDM, so if I see you on the way back, I'll try to keep up. I also have some domestic stuff that I neglected while I was on vacation ...... the joys of home ownership.

    A TDM?
You know if you saved your money you could have a GS?
Not that TDM's aren't great bikes, I actually think they are, But I think GS's are tops.
Sorry to hear you won't be riding along, but like I said, I'm off early for the Denali.

    See you next time,,,,

I read this morning that Laguna Seca is officially sold out for this weekend's Moto GP race...the first time in 49 years.
According to the Monterrey paper, a crowd of 140,000 is expected. I guess this means there is an American audience for Moto GP.
I definitely need to message Barb for survival tactics. :eek1

    Did the Denali.
Not as I had thought it would end up but fun all the same.
I rode alone, I rode pretty fast.
It rained all day, hard at times, but all day.
13 hours from start to finish, including stops.
    Here are a couple pics.

    A Gruver was here!

I got a little riding in, but mostly I have all the stuff from my arctic entry now sitting in my living room so we can redo the floor. And then, as long as we're redoing the floor, we should repaint and retexture the walls, and as long as we're doing all that why not redo the ceiling? You'd think by now I know what happens when you say "yes" to a single project. :deal

Bummer about the rain! We got over 1" on the 4th, with thunder all day long. We decided to bail on the trip after seeing/hearing the weather. I'm glad you enhoyed it!

I saw 4 bikes while only one "true" DP bike on the entire ride. He was moving right along on a blue KLR.

    But the other 3.

A very nice guy was at Gracious House on an early 70's Honda 750 sport with steet tires. In rough looking shape. He was heading toward Cantwell.
Then closer to Tangle Lakes, I saw 2 more strange bikes to see out there. An old Sportster, in very poor condition and a "who could guess" bike. It was a '74 Yamaha Virago frame with a '72, 750 motor. Which had just been put back togather that morning. Short non muffled pipes on either bike. Neither one would start. They were carrying extra fuel in pop bottles. 16 oz. size. Bald tires, and lots of courage. They were turning around and heading back to Fairbanks. WHEW!

I rode from Neumans Hilltop in Willow, arrived in Cantwell and it was raining real hard so off to Paxson. When I arrived my fuel light was on and had been on for awhile. Paxson didn't have any fuel. The 15 miles to Meirs Lake Lodge was a bit anxious. At Meirs Lake it stopped raining. How sweet it was.

The Denali Highway was soft in many places from all the rain. There were lots of motorhomes pulling trailers with 4-wheelers on them. They were having troubles doing more than 5 mph. So passing was great, and easy. A great ride in general.

    lets see...

    anch - cantwell = 210ish
    cantwell - paxson = 140ish
    paxson - glennallen = 70ish
    glennallen - anch = 180ish

of course it is longer if you go the other way

    That is not any trouble.
It actually ended up being 486 BMW miles.
I don't know how that boils down to real miles, but I do think it is less.

As it turns out, it's a good thing I didn't go with you.
I went out for a spin tonight and noticed that the Pegaso was handling really odd, kind of weaving and wobbling and trying to fall over at low speeds. Upon returning to the house, I checked the steering head bearings and sure enough they were notchy and stiff. Apparently, Italians are not familiar with the new fangled "grease" technology...... :huh

I'm thinking, that was a lucky day for you. And me.
That would have sucked to have handling troubles on the Denali. Riding double out would have really sucked, especially since I didn't have an aft seat installed.

GREASE it isn't just an awesome movie.:rofl :poser :D :poser :lol3 :poser :lol3 :poser

    Well let's see here.....

First the Pegaso went home from D2D in the back of apickup....

And then I could have had to ride out on the back of Gus's bike....

At that point I think I'd be better off giving up and buying a Harley.
    With lots of chrome.
    And leather tassels. :ymca
