I want to do this really bad, anybody from Sacramento doing this? Wanna show the new guy the ropes? And by new, I mean, never done a ride like this, I am not new to riding.

    IN!

If I don't have the 'Fant back, I'll find a smaller bike (where's the challenge in that?) but count me in.

I'm in again this year, can't wait.
I supplied the luggage trailer last year and, if I get the call again, it'll mean I'll be hauling a hugmongus trailer with only 2 bikes inside. Anybody from the bay area who needs a bike or gear taken up, drop me a line.

Yes. I does sound like fun. But what about the roll charts?

    Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks for the encouragement, Dave. My bike is vastly improved (lots of suspension work and other goodies) from when I rode with (well, OK, way behind) you guys last year, and I have done some dirt riding in the Sierra since then so my abilities and confidence level are better too. Plus I run D606s on the bike now ;-)

I've reserved a motel room in Fort Bragg for Saturday night, so I am committed to go!

If you still have it, couldn't you just remount the stock exhaust for that weekend? In fact, I have a perfect condition stock muffler here for a 2001 640 LC4 SuperMoto that I used to own that you can have if you want to come pick it up in SF.

I just went down to the garage and checked it out. Never crashed, seems to be stainless steel It's the stock KTM exhaust but it's made by SuperTrapp. Appears to be an internal disc type, and it's clearly marked that it has a USFS approved spark arrester. You would need the stock header and cross pipe, but if it'll work for you, it's yours (or if anyone else wants it and can pick it up, it's theirs).

They have some there to sell, but it is a good idea to get one in advance, cycle gear, zoom or any MC shop that is geared towards dirt should have them, it is a cheap item. If you are planning on riding with a group you could get away with not having one.

I agree w/DaveBro. There wasn;t really anything (even on the hard loop) that one could not do on a GS (or similar), perhaps just a bit slower. I may do it on the GS this year as all the road stuff 'twas no fun on the TE450 all wrung out:lol3

This is the wrong approach - the FS DOES monitor this stuff and you could probably sneak by - but - the requirements - sound testing and USFS Spark arrestor - are requirements of the event permit put in place by the FS - if non-compliance is discovered, especially by the people who hate OHV - it could jeopardize future event permits - READ - it could mean no event permits in the future

Why would you try to sneak by on this anyway? You gonna make your 640 faster with straight pipes?

I am in compliance, just stating the way it was last year. I never saw a sound meter, it was just a guy listening and going on what the guys who put it on told me.

I clearly remember them having a sound meter at the tech check area last year. They pointed it at everyone's exhaust.

Totally agree with stevets that this should not be about "sneaking past" the rules. (This is not directed at you mongox, just adding my own comment.) Compliant, QUIET exhausts are in everyone's best interest.
