I guess what I'm trying to say, if it passes the state OHV standard which is pretty loud (96db I believe) then it is good enough for them. So if it seems too loud for street use, it dosn't mean it won't pass the OHV test. If you go to any of the OHV parks they usually have a tester there and its free.

If anyone wants to test before going up there, I have a sound level meter and am available in SF.

I don't know what sound level the bike is, other than I choose to wear earplug while riding it. It probably needs re-packing, but it's still a "straight" pipe (I can see all the way through it) without baffles. And that doesn't solve the problem of not having a spark arrestor.

michaeln, thanks for the offer. Stocks exhausts weigh a ton, and I'm trying to lighten the load on my sub-frame. They're not all that sturdy to begin with, and I like to add some pretty heavy bags.

Heh... my KLR makes so much mechanical noise at 3450 RPMs that even with stock exhaust in good condition I can probably blow 96dB.

You can buy a spark arrestor. just sayin. as long as they can't get a wire through, it is pretty much good. Wire mesh and a baffle basically. And it will attenuate some too. May not look Pretty but at least you can have fun.

My family is bicycling the Camino de Santiago in Spain, we leave the 17th of May...

Y'all have fun! I think you won't need dustmasks this year, but it wouldn't hurt to have a few in the gearbag.

I think it will be like the year before, MUD BOG CITY

Ya won't have the great white whale to lead the way...or hold you back! :lol3

I live up here in Mendocino, and we have had tons more rain than last year, and more to come. I think it is going to be a soggy spring, so the rivers will be high and there will be snow up on the passes.

Last year it was a dustbowl, but we had less than half the rain of this current year.

Sorry I could'nt make it. I did hit Cow Sunday with Mendovet. It was perfect. We caught some air on the 950's, and did a up river ride becuase the lakeport gate was closed.

We got up there around 8:15 Saturday morning and headed out. Most of the trails we rode wouldn't have been conducive to 950 riding, not w/o trashing them anyway. I had a little incident myself and messed up my foot, still hobbling but should be alright in a week or so.

We quit about 11:30 and I'm glad we did. When we got back to the staging area there were probably 20-25 vehicles in the lot and we passed another 8-10 coming up as we were leaving. Way too crowded.

I think some time in mid april we going to do a ride similar to the one we did last summer, Cow and Fish Rock, and spend more time at Cow on some of the side jeep roads, not just the main one. It'll be a great warm up for the Sheetiron.

Mighty Zeus (Suzanna at Santa Rosa BMW) asked DaveBro and me to do a dualsport ride out of SR BMW so we'll most likely incorporate the two rides together. I'm thinking knobbies are going to be needed because it might be a little too exciting without. We'll see how much more rain we get.
