Cant speak for Chainland just yet, but there is alot of gravel up north. What I am beginning to believe is; rural Illinois, being mostly farmland, is replete with gravel roads. You just have to get off the beaten path and make a game of connecting the gravel stretches. A worthy game.

you are correct, and learn to read the topography from a distance.
In Illinois if its not corn and beans there is a reason. If you know youre near a river corridor, then just look for major tree lines. the reason there are trees is because its probably to hilly to farm and therefore the roads will be twisty. add that to gravel and the sum is fun.

word of the day is replete :thumb

:cry I had to pass due to a mechanical snafu. I installed a larger tank on my bike which requires a new seat also. Well, apparently I ordered the wrong seat. Needless to say, it didn't fit. So I spent several hours unsuccessfully trying to MAKE it fit. There I was in my garage at 1:30 am (three hours before ride departure) with an unridable bike. :bluduh My choice at that point was either put back on the small tank and hope for gas-stations-galore, or go to bed. So I went to bed. :snore I will get it sorted this week, hopefully. Sorry to Taki, Schmidty, and Marathon Man for the miss. I'll be there for the next one. Labor Day weekend ride, anyone? I'm also open the following weekend. :ear And four weekends from now is Chainstock. :freaky

You are correct, sir - it was Jo Davies County. We rode mostly north of Route 20 near Stockton, Elizabeth, and Scales Mound. Nice country. :nod
