Why the 2nd hand bike shortage in shops?

I've been checking out a few bike shops lately and can't believe the lack of 2nd hand bikes out the front. One Team Moto shop said they usually have 30-40 out the front, and at the moment they only have 8. The guy said they just can't get them and have sold them all. He said they've got 5 blokes sitting around on their bums on couches with computers doing nothing because there's no 2nd hand bikes to buy (is this the source of those horrible SMS low-ballers - Team Moto buyers?).
I've heard this from a few different sources that the shops have run short of 2nd hand bikes in the past 2 months.
    Why is this? Anyone know?

Well there are a few here that have more than just a few in their sheds, they are buying them all up.

Yet here I am, my wife giving me a nasty dirty look when I said that I am getting a second bike.

I have just spent the last month looking for a second bike. Here's what I discovered.

The second hand market has been stripped of anything worth owning. All that remains, mostly, is higher k's and grossly overpriced. "Tell 'em they're dreamin'."

The new market for some brands has exploded, leaving fuck-all stock on dealership floors.

The anecdotal evidence suggest the 20 - 35 y.o. demographic who accessed their superannuation, and who hadn't actually lost any work (most of them) blew the money on discretionary expenditure including toys, electronics, furniture, etc.. A dealer in the southern highlands told me his new floor stock had emptied out in a couple of weeks due to superannuation expenditure, and he wasn't getting any more new bikes from KTM until October at the earliest.

So it would seem that you can basically thank the gubbermint for the current lack of choices.

I have gone from being quite happy to buy a low-k used example to now getting ready to pull the pin on a new one, simply because the used market seemingly has nothing left worth buying.

And Nev and his mates should give those extra bikes to someone who will use them.

I've heard it's because there's a lot of disposable cash around at the moment. No pub or pokies, No sports betting. Jobkeeper. Also people have been drawing down 10K from their super, they've gotta spend it somewhere.

There are a few late model 2nd hand KTM 1090R’s for sale near me. I wonder if the owners bought a 790?
