Kentucky lore tells of a murder at Townsend Cave during the Civil War. "blood runs cold out of Townsend Cave"

Listen to the haunting story sung by New Kentucky String Ticklers

Here's a few more shots of Day 3.
One of our first stops would be Townsend Caves.
We were treated some some great roads along the way like this..

Here JakBrand Crosses one of the many small creek crossings

Use caution descending the road to Townsend Cave. It's rough and comparable to Jeff's red trails.

From Townsend Cave KAT continues north past active mines

then connects with Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway.

Pumpkin Hollow and Spaas Creek at KAT's northern most point might be the most scenic section of the entire tour.

Crafty residents living in Pumpkin Hollow strategically posted "No Trespassing" signs in an attempt to discourage traffic. Don't be fooled, Pumpkin Hollow Road is open to the public.

Here we are in Beattyville at the motel. At night we would cable the bikes together and hope for the best the next morning. I get up early to check and all's good. Ready for a quick breakfast at 6am across the parking lot at DQ...............I think Bert already mentioned that we are early risers.........Lol

Here's another shot of JakBrand coming thru the creek while Bert snaps a photo..........

Today's riding would take us through more great paved sections. Lots of secondary rural roads into small settlements where the houses and mobile homes are literally two paces off the paved roadway.

Day Three would take us from Beattyville to Allen City Kentucky.
It would mark the day that we got seperated. More on that later.

We'd leave Beattyville and make our way north towards Slade.

We ride lots of nice roads once again and visit places like "Pumpkin Hollow"

Seems the KTMs we were riding fit right at home here.

    Lots more creek crossings today

I see what you did there.........:lol2

that's where Jack gave us his definition of pump-kin.......I'll leave that little tidbit out though. :lol3

That was a nice section with all the wet rocky terrain and thick overgrowth.

We saw this sign and thought about our good friend down in Lakeland Florida Andy Young..
We couldn't help but take a photo.

Next up was an old RR trestle. It's on the route for now, but this area is being improved and I have to assume this will be closed to Motorcycle traffic. We were only on it for a short distance and excited to our next red trail.

It used to look like this

Yep, it's true........We rode Big Andy and liked it!.........

And just down from the old trestle we saw the wild horses, probably 20 to 25 of them. There was a guy there with a truck and a quad I suppose leaving them some food..............This is just a photo that I Googled as we didn't actually stop for pics.
