We descend Pine Mountain then headed south towards Evarts.
Evarts was the gateway to some serious hill climbs in the Black Mountain OHV area.
I looked straight up at the first hill climb and decided to bring my A-Game. These trails were no joke and I could feel butterflies in my stomach.

WOW, what a view from this overlook on Hard 5

    IMG_0260.JPG

And as we move along Hard 5 it offers a perfect morning ride thru some nice forest land..........but don't get too relaxed, Hard 5 still has some surprises......

We soon see jack looking a little uncomfortable.

Hey ToolGuy1..I wonder why JakBrand seems so quite during this part of the ride?

We rode only a small portion of the extensive trail network at Black Mountain OHV. It's worth a return visit. :deal

Exiting Black Mountain OHV area KAT dives into rugged Jones Creek where the butterflies in my stomach morphed into dragons. :uhoh

Last night's chimichanga and today's sausage biscuit conspired to make an exit at Jones Creek and all of a sudden the red trail became a brown trail.
Unfortunately, Harlan County Kentucky will never be the same.

Butterflies you...are you sure that wasn't Hardee's Breakfast? :pot

You know it's not a good sign when you need a pot-a-john...but when you have to keep the door propped open with your backback, it's really getting bad!

I've spent many hot days at the races in full gear sitting in one of these stinking things..JakBrand spend about 30 minutes in this one and it must have been 110 degrees inside.

The trail to Kitts Knob was more than we could handle.
We backtracked Jones Creek and cruised scenic roads to Martins Fork Lake for a lengthy pit stop.
I was not feeling 100 percent so we decided to abort the remainder of Hard 5 and opted for KAT main route which was a nice mix of pavement and dirt.

Hard 5 was supposed to take all day, but since we skipped most of Hard 5 we jumped way ahead of schedule.

Hard 6 at Kentucky Ridge State Forest was the only red trail between Cubbage and Jelico and the final red trail of our tour.

After Jelico a short section of pavement and gravel brought us full circle back to Brimstone.
We finished KAT a day early.

There was one final tricky part left on todays ride and Bert was lucky enough to miss out on this one...........We stopped in at a mom and pops sandwich shop for a bite to eat. By now my stomach was also feeling a bit "funny". As we waited for our sandwiches Jack made use of the facilities and then rejoined us in the dining area where we polished off some really good homemade type sandwiches, but before we could leave I had to visit said facilities also............I open the door and there was water all over the floor and no top on the tank of the toilet........it didn't matter as I had to go regardless...........I sat down and the whole toilet moved about 3-4 inches and my feet slipped in all the water on the floor. After regaining my balance all went smoothly as I finished my business. I came out and Jack was laughing and said "I should have warned you.".........When Jack went earlier, he went to sit down and the toilet is very low, must be a kids toilet. Anyway his knee braces locked out and his back hit the tank sending a wave of water over the floor............Video would have been priceless. :imaposer

    Thanks for following along!
KAT is an easy drive from Indiana. An autumn tour would be ideal.

    Regards
