So I'm trying to save up some $$ to get a BMW.

I was able to rent a F7GS last weekend and did some off-pavement riding on it. It had the standard seat and suspension on it and I was doing fine with both balls of feet touching ground.

I'm curious as I know the F8GS is about 2" higher than the F7, will the lowered seat on the F8 gives me the same result as the F7 with standard everything. My inseam is 29".

Thank you for all the help!

    The answer is no.

800GS seat height is 880mm with stock seat and 850mm with low seat.
700GS seat height with stock seat is 820mm.

If you want a 800GS at 820mm, you'll need the factory lowering kit. Oh, and both stock and low seat are real pita...

Not just the height, but the width is important.

Narrower the bike/saddle, the more reach you will have at the same saddle height.

800 subframe is wider so will seem even taller than the 700...
Depends on how competent you are off road and how much off road you plan on riding. With a 30" inseam I one leg almost all my road bikes at stops so that's not an issue really. Off pavement is a different story since I am a dirt neophyte...

    Open mouth, insert foot...
Thanks for the accurate info...I thought the 800 adventure subframe was beefier...

You guys know about this site right?

    http://cycle-ergo.com/

You can plug in the details and futz with modifications like a lower seat (simulate a lower seat or lower suspension), etc.

Same with your reach, which is kinda nice.

Thank you for all the replies. I forgot to mention a little part of my story.

The same day I rented my 700, my friend got a lowered suspension with standard seat F8. I jumped on it at the parking lot and I can tippy toe (maybe even the balls of feet) with both legs. But I really prefer a standard suspension so I'm just wondering if a low seat will allows me to do that without adjusting the suspension.
