I just picked up a DL650 (moving from a DR650) and so far a very sweet bike. There's no way I could do a long trip on the DR without my @$$ falling asleep and my hands going numb from the vibrations.
Here's my question for any VSTROM guys out there.
When I'm sitting in my normal riding position, I get a lot of wind buffeting. When I raise my head farther above the windscreen, it's a laminar flow, but no buffeting, when I lower my head behind the windscreen, no wind, no buffeting.
Any ideas how to stop this? I've read about different windscreens, been told it's the mirrors, but before I try re-inventing the wheel, thought I'd ask if anyone else has ever experienced this.
    Thanks,
    Ken

BTW - I'm looking for a guy who lives here in Prescott, AZ and rides a yellow SV650 and just bought a VSTROM. Anybody know who I'm talking about?

Holy cow, dude. This is the #1complaint about that bike. Search the forums for windscreen options or check out the V-Strom forum.

    vstrom.info, or something. Google it.

There are a lot of different aftermarket windscreen options. People have also custom modified their screens (via hacksaw) with pleasurable results. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys, this forum's got a ton of stuff on it.
    Vstrommancer,
How much are you cutting off?
The wifey and I leave next Wednesday for a ride up to Zion, Bryce, North Rim Grand Canyon, sure would like to have this taken care of before we leave.
    Thanks,
    Ken

We took 7" off the sides (vertical) and 3" in the center to make a "summer" screen on our VStrom 1000. It works pretty good with more air flow but you will still get a little buffeting. We think it looks good too.

Really, it is best to go with a BIGGER windscreen like the one Givi offers to reduce the buffeting and increase weather protection.
There are other solutions folks have tried with varied results.

Before doing any mods, try it in the lowest position. I get wind pretty much full-on there, with little buffeting.

This is a great solution - I have my windscreen set in the lowest position and fully tilted (toward me) and it reduces virtually all buffeting - it's made a huge difference. http://www.madstad.com/servlet/Detail?no=5

I just put a Cee-Bailey tall windshield on my DL 1000 (previously I had the Suzuki accessory higher than stock windshield). Right now I look just over the top edge while riding. The air is clean and QUIET. Bugs not a problem. Haven't tried rain yet. Looks better than I thought it would (but I also have a large tank bag). No picture at the moment.

It is the best money one can spend on the Vee-Strom, IMO. You can screw around all you want with diiferent windscreens or cutting them down but his device will same you a lot of time and aggravation.

+1 on the Madstad screen mount. It doesn't turn the Strom into a Goldwing, but it eliminates a good amount of buffeting. Plus, you can position it low for summer riding, and higher up for when you want some wind protection.

    Excellent product.
