I live in Tennessee. I have some vacation time coming up real soon. I am sick of going to the beach. Wife doesn't want to go to the mountains. I would like to go somewhere I have never been before - so I am thinking Wisconsin, maybe Michigan, assuming there is a nice place to spend a few days. Maybe around the lake? It needs to be within a day's drive of middle Tennessee.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks

ps - we will not be on a motorcycle, this is a cage trip

Door County Wisconsin is popular, Lake Michigan circle tour is popular (just did this on the bike) Any where in the UP is pretty laid back. Lake Superior tour with stop along the Apostle Islands is another good trip. It really depends on what you are looking for in a vacation. Wisconsin or Michigan have a ton to offer.

I have a friend that manages a resort in Minocqua, Wi. Cabins, boat rentals, fishing, that kind of thing. Could easily daytrip to Lake Superior from there.

Or just hang out and get drunk at supper clubs. That's what I'd do. :dunno

It would be helpful if you could list a few things you'd like to see or do, or perhaps interests (other than motorcycles) and possible dates. There are a myriad of festivals and special activities that take place in late summer, and the locals can help guide to ones that don't suck.:D

The Michigan shoreline is simply delightful this time of year. The biking is best from Ludington north.

You can be in Copper Harbor MI (UP) in 4 hrs or so from there... another fun place to wander around...

And the water is warm! Both in Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.

We like the Traverse City/Northport area.

The best motorcycling/car cruising roads in WI are in the SW driftless/coulee region area west of Madison to the Mississippi river and north to about Eau Claire. County and township roads are incredible for both riding/driving experience and natural beauty. Camping abounds, canoeing opportunities everywhere and most excellent fishing.

well I showed her the website for Door County. Looks pretty good to me. I would love to go to some of the local festivals.

All she wants is the beach. We're going to Florida. Again. I hate Florida.

I also hate Florida but I do like Door County but it can be very crowded in the summer. If she want beaches, Michigan is your daddy. We have some of the best beaches period....crowded ones like Grand Haven or little deserted ones up in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area, which also has bitch'n riding by the way. Festivals abound all along the lake shore in the summer, Grand Haven has the biggest with its Coast Guard Fest. PM if you need directions or tips. Its hard to believe that its almost August already.

Grand Marais is one of my favorite towns in all the world. It has that Maine/Nova Scotia feel to it. Nice beach there too. Bring sweatshirts and longjohns if you go to the UP. With all the hot weather we are getting, wearing a sweatshirt again sounds pretty enticing. :lol3

So you went to Fla. anyway? I read your post on getting ripped off on the Harley rental, that sucks. There's nothing like riding in the panhandle in 100 degree heat. You should have come north. Temps in the 70s this week, no sharks either.:rofl
