I thought it was FISHTAB? He wasn't towing one though, it came with the room.
oh oh. Devil's Lake campground is closed.
Any wisconsiners on the tent space list
(no, I'm not panicing yet...still 2 weeks before we head down.).
Don't go to Lake Delton!
What lake Delton?
I was at Lake Deltran just a few days ago---I took
this picture. Pretty sad---dying 2ft. long fish flopping in the mud.
That is so unfair to quote the news media quote and call them as you did. It is impossible for anyone from any state to be as insensitive to Wisconsin and Iowa flooding and the loss of life and homes as the media quote seems to paint this couple. And as for FIB, I have lived in Illinois all my life and I have always loved Wisconsin and the people there...and the cows. I don't litter, or do whatever earned Illinoisans that nickname.
And, I never even heard of that characterization until I got on a couple of motorcycle forums. Not so good for us.
Sorry to see you write that.
we've always called 'em that?
not sure if you've heard but we don't care much for your football team either
Hey! We won the SuperBowl 21 years ago. How 'bout that, 'ey?
When my son was in USAF tech school in Mississippi he had a classmate from Illinois. Son jokingly called the guy a FIB. The Illinois resident laughed and said the name calling made him feel at home!
Get rid of the freakin' Illinois tollway, then we might get along!
Did some aerial Recon of Lake Delton today. Quite the sight...
Dramatic pictures would be an understatement. Anybody know the resorts on the bottom of the last picture?
Devil's lake campground is closed at least until the 25th. Our reservations were for 29th-1st...so I think I'll have to cancel those and think up plan B. (although thank-you to the inmate who offered some tent space!) I camped with my 2year old and it was fun, but I think I may be pushing it taking the 5month old too...especially if you add unknown like weather and temperatures which he may not tolerate as well as the older one.
I still like to stay "out there", but maybe with more creature comforts and an easier way to keep the little one on his schedule. Can anybody recommend a family-friendly cabin rental place between MN and the Dells? Anybody have a cabin they want to rent out for 2 nights? (wife, me, and 2 kids)
Montello is fairly close (within an hour, even with crap traffic) and I don't think they got much, if any flooding. There's a few places to camp around Buffalo Lake. And it's far enough from the Dells that you don't end up paying the Dells "premium".
Montello has High water in Buffalo lake... I was through there this weekend. The two roads that cross the lake in the southern half (hwy O and D) were closed, and 22 through Montello was shut down, But they were letting traffic travel across the one-lane wide dyke road... All may be fine after the water recedes though.
How about Baraboo? Home of the Circus Museum
I miss flying - you get such a different perception of things like this!
Awful to see though!
My buddy is the Pilot... Owns 1/3 of a 172. Is a ton of fun to go up and get the proverbial "$100 burger"
I've been thinking about getting into power paragliding--
But somehow $8,000 seems kinda steep for what amounts to a lawnmower engine, Kite string, and bedsheets
You know your old when....
....you force your family to do the stuff you did as a kid.
I remember my dad taking us on a tour of Amish country in...hmmm..was it South Dakota? I don't remember now. Anyhow, this is pretty much on our way...and yes kids, we're going, and you're going to like it.
Decided what we're going to do. Gonna cancel our Devil's Lake camping reservations and stay an extra night in Minneapolis, then stay in Black River falls (either camp or hotel, depending on weather) before continuing to the Dells.
The good. The unemployment rate is low in the dells.
The bad. Everything else.
2) VERY LITTLE IF ANY RECYCLING
3) DELTON LAKE IS DRIED UP
4) DELTON LAKE was a noisy nuisance which sort of contradicts what the dells was originally about.
5) If you want to be around mindless SUV driving oxygen thieves and pointless people and their spoiled noisey and soon to be pointless kids. Go to the Dells.
Save your money, and take your family camping in the real wilderness up north or on Lake Superior or something and get them away from the commerical train wreck that is the DELLS.
Gotta keep everyone happy. Minneapolis shopping for the Mrs. Waterparks for the kid(s). Me, well...I get to watch everyone else be happy, and I get a campfire and a tent for a night. I'm all for wilderness camping..but you gotta start with baby steps (literally, the oldest is only 2). As soon as she can walk more than 1/2 a block without saying "up pease" we'll go for some backpacking overnighters...but for now..we'll do what we can to keep the peace.
I rode to the Dells area from Madison last night.
Lower Cty. DL is closed until Thursday when Devils Lake State Park will reopen.
Hwy. 113 is detoured unto upper Cty. DL
Hwy. 12 between Baraboo and the Ho Chunk casino is one lane in both directions. Northbound traffic is on the freshly paved shoulder.
The Merrimac ferry is open.
The country roads are remarkably free of gravel, faster corners! Cty. O south of the Dells to Portage, nice curves and flats where you can really fly.
Lake Delton is a trickle of its former self, Cty. A is closed. The Tommy Bartlett show is relying on stage acts. I thought Wes Harrison was dead by now, he's gotta be in his 80s.
Other than the Ducks, the Dells is open for business. It was quiet last night but that's to be expected on a Monday. I was very disappointed that Little Village Cafe in Baraboo was closed, I was ready for one of their great burgers with chipotle mayo. Oh well, guess even Stu and Chris deserve a day off.
Hwy. 33 between the interstate and Baraboo, still closed. Cty. PF still closed. Don't know the status of Hwy. 12 between Sauk City and Baraboo.
T minus 6 hours and we're off. MN for a couple days, then black river falls, then the dells and back home. Hit me up with the salute - I'll cover the kid's eyes. Gold Sienna with MB plates and a Yakima top box. Probably 2 kids in the back - unless they give me attitude...then they get upper seats in the box.
