We rode the route I have above from Blue River counterclockwise to Readstown. it was really cold and windy with temps between 35 and 40 degrees F. all day. We cut the ride short in Readstown because one of our group broke a clutch cable, so we escorted him back to Muscoda.

The route itself was incredible. the roads are all in great condition, with constant turns and elevation changes. When we got to our first stop in Rockbridge one of the guys asked if we were in Wisconsin or on the Dragon.

our group was a wide variety of ages and bikes. the youngest was in his early 20s on a 2 day new GSX-s1000. The oldest was either my dad on his vtx or his cousin on his Harley. All together we had 8 bikes. My Vstrom, a Versys, 2 harleys, the GSX, a goldwing, a VTX and a home brew hard tail with a v-8 engine (pictures coming on this) and everyone enjoyed these roads.

Do you have a GPX or points list of this? And given the cruiser members of your crew, I am going to assume NO gravel. I am gonna be in the area with some cruisers and they would be unhappy with gravel.

i have a gpx file. I can send you tonight. or I'll try to post it on here (i've never posted a gps file before so bear with me on that).

You are correct, the ride was planned with no gravel. On our May ride, there was no gravel. HOWEVER, i rode the same route in August and there was a stretch between Ontario and the Goose Barn Pizza which was being redone and had light gravel / topcoat.

I have not been on this route since August, so there might be topcoat operations on some stretches, but the route, as laid out, is entirely paved.

The white bike in the post above yours rode the entire route, so at that time no problems.

That would be great. Thank you. My understanding is that the same button for pix allows for GPX files to be added otherwise I can PM you my email.

Here is a very similar route. this is the route that my wife and I took in Sept. it was based on the route you asked about, but we added to it and made it a 2 day trip.

couple of things to note: Mindoro was all gravel and the mindoro cut had new culverts for the entire length, so these were all gravel in August.

Also in August, the stretch between Boscobel and Blue River was closed due to construction. We ended up taking a short cut that I knew, but since you are forewarned you can pick a different route.

There is also construction in Readstown, but there is a paved detour so no problems. good gas stops with snacks and drinks in Blue River, Boaz, Boscobel, Ontario, Readstown. there are stops in most of the larger towns, but not every place has gas and/or food. there is a store in Rockbridge, but no gas.

I broke this into 2 parts because we did it as a 2 day trip. I'm not sure but i think you can start with this and make it a continuous 1 day trip. if you make it a 2 day trip, this is a great route (except for Mindor unless you take it really slow).

There are also several opportunities for Rustic Roads, including my favorite which was Cty MM just South of LaCrosse.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I really enjoyed this ride and am happy to share it with others.

Thanks for the tracks Dale! We had a blast and ended up detouring a bit to find more great roads.
