Stevie Ray Vaughn was killed in a helicopter crash at Alpine Valley. He took an offered ride back to Chicago in a helicopter convoy after the concert. The one he was on got disoriented in the fog and turned into the ski hill and crashed as it departed. The other aircraft didn't notice and headed out.

The featured performer, Eric Clapton, passed on the helicopters and stayed in a hotel in nearby Delavan.

Lots of Wisconsin oddities, I'm proud to be one of them. Would love to own that old gas station in Manawa. But being married and all, my lovely wife kinda prefers a regular house to live in.

There is a mega pheasant farm outside Janesville. Big disease control effort. These birds are shipped to a lot of states.

The place is far too large to try to get any kind of decent photo of it. Here are some aerials.

There was another annex across the river. Probably more in the area.

I think I will jump in here. I have been out roaming around on the Tenere and decided I ought to document a few of the missing 'Wisconsin Oddities Sites' that have yet to be documented.

First up is the Wiffle Ball Field from the list. Located on the South side of Hwy. 14 between the towns of Black Earth and Mazomanie.

The actual place is a nice little sports bar called Rookies. http://www.rookiesfood.com/ They have excellent food and the inside is decorated will all kinds of sports memorabilia.
Great place to stop for a good burger and fries! Word on the street is that it is owned by the same folks who run the long-time local shoe store in Black Earth called the ShoeBox.

The wiffle ball field located behind the joint. The field is open to customers to play on. Pretty neat how it is setup like a miniature ball park.

Cave of the Mounds located just East of the town of Blue Mounds.

The cave was discovered by accident on August 4th. 1939. Back in the day the land was the site of the Brigham Farm. The farm operated a small Limestone quarry since the area features high quality Limestone. Some workers were doing blasting and on one of the blasts they opened up a 20 foot hole that was the entrance to the cave. Quite a discovery! This drummed up quite a bit of excitement from the locals and the place soon had many visitors. Eventually they stabilized the site and started offering guided tours. It them became known as what we know today as Cave of the Mounds. The site has the status as a National Natural Landmark.

If you are in the area, please stop by and take a tour of the place. Its definitely worth the time and the visit. I have toured many caves around the country and this one is, by far features the most beautiful and colorful formations.

Switched the linked images over to SmugMug for hosting. Hopefully that fixes things up.
