Yup did all those except Maori creek. Wasps are a bigger hazard than sandflys. 3 stings today. One on my cheek and two on my tummy. Was hot so had jacket unzipped. Fortunately not allergic.

Forgot about them buggers - ouch !!

There are heaps to explore - you could visit the Retreat of Hopeful Christian / Gloriavale across near Kopara

Ahaura-Kopara Rd is a neat in and out - keep the GoPro going - wildlife galore
Reefton - old Goldmine tracks are doable but care in places
Ikamatua-Waiuta - nice old mining town relics

    Enjoy

Ahaura kopara road was where Mr gamin sent me to get to lake hochstetter. A fantastic ride alright. I had been to the end of haupiri road earlier in the day and the pink lines on the gps almost joined up at the end of Ahaura kopara road. Would be a fantastic loop if there was a way across the farms and the river. Waiuta was pretty cool and a nice ride in too. Heading kumara way this morning.

Some familiar looking tracks your riding mate.
Maori Creek is a bloody warren of tracks, it pays to have a GPX route already in the GPS to lead you through

I remember going across the river there in a 4wd years back, It was an honest crossing then but depending on the current lay of the river there'd have to be a good chance of making it over on a bike in the dry season (as much as there is one on the coast)

    Cheers

Yes Clint - we had a look at crossing the river as a loop but way too much flow for the boys..................
Still interesting how you pick up things you missed on the way coming out

Left moana yesterday around the lakes heading to kumara and found a rough looking road called Clifton road so went in for a look see. It eventually linked up to Maori creek road. Some really nice riding in there. 20180126_114208.jpg

Came out at kokiri so headed to greymouth for a coffee which I got from a guy set up on the Blaketown tip head. Then decided to ride along the beach for old times sake. This beach is where I learned to ride a motorbike on my dt175. Everyone who visits greymouth should do this. It won't dissapoint.

Kumara was next and a hoot along the dredge tailings then through dimanstown and along duffers track which was cool with quite a few bog holes which were hard to read.

Duffers track came out onto old chch road so I rode to hokitika for a look see then decided to ride to Franz but on the way turned down to totara road for no reason at all. Wow what a cool road. Real jurassic park stuff . It got rougher and winder the further in. Eventually got to the end where there were 5 Austrian guys on big bikes scratching g their heads wondering where to go from there. I pointed back from where they had come but gave up trying to communicate as they didn't speak any England .

This is where totara road ends. Highly recommended.
After that I couldn't be assed going to Franz as it was so hot and muggy so went to lake kaniere for a look see and then back to greymouth and pitched my tent in a mates back yard then went out for a bbq and a few quiets.

Nice, must get down there sometime.
You are addicted to camping now aren't you, I'm off to camp up the Howard tonight, it's good to get a bit of tent time.

Wouldn't say addicted but good fun.

Home now. Fantastic 50th at Barrytown till almost daybreak with friends not seen since we were at school. Good times.

Had a swim in the fox river then rode home in the incredible heat via coast road and buller gorge. Gotta say possibly the most unpleasant riding experience in my life. To be fair possibly shouldn't have even been riding.

Definitely need to get down there again, it is possibly the most beautiful place on the planet, although I wish they would find something else to do with some of the land other than turn it into Dairy farms though. Gets up my nose a bit. Rant over.

After looking inside Maud creek hut, I suggest sleeping in your tent.
