I just rebuilt my top end of my 1996 Yammy WR250Z. Cleaned off all the mating surfaces, used a sealed aftermarket paper top end gasket kit that the PO had given me, and bolted everything to spec. Completely reassembled the entire bike, poured in coolant, and low and behold the base gasket is leaking right below the expansion chamber. I didn't apply anything other than the gasket, but in hind sight, maybe I should have applied Yamabond or something similar. Is there any reason why I can't simply shim up my cylinder a half inch, inspect the gasket to ensure no tears, apply Yamabond, and simply go a round 2 and see what happens? I'm going to be selling the bike, but don't want to give someone something that I know has an issue.
