The pegs are a bit small and could be grippier but standing is easy enough, I've done it for kilometers at a time without problem. It's actually pretty easy to lock your knees in to the airbox while standing. I'm relatively short (5' 8") and found I needed bar risers so if you're taller you'll probably feel like you're reaching down too far.

I'm 6'-2" and even with lowered pegs and a 1in bar riser I'm still hunched over. It's not horrible though, you just need to keep your knees bent a little which they should be if you're riding off-road anyway.

To the point that was already made, you can lock your knees against the frame and get more comfortable if you're on a smooth road.

I bought a 2in rox risers to replace my 1in fixed riser and give me a little more room. I do think I'll have to get creative with cable routing or buy longer cables.

I ended up making a hole in the triple tree that mirrored the the clutch cable hole, and routed the throttle cables through there. Worked a treat.

The 2009 and up models are supposed to have fewer issues right? Looking at a 2006 with 7k and a 2009 with 22K.

Significant updates in '08 that carried on to '10. Minor updates in '09 and double right side bearing on the rear wheel in 2010. Details here:

If the price is similar, go for the '09, but I wouldn't be afraid of the '06 of it's for a good deal.

And this is where I turned around, shortly after the Rogers Trough Trailhead turn off.
I was going up gangbusters but balked right where the bigger rocks start, stopped, and began sliding backwards... the failing was all mine, as I lost my nerve. I have no doubt the bike would have done it - I had already gone up plenty of hills just as steep up to this point. After muscling the bike around and getting back down to a level spot, I was just too beat to try again. That is what a year of self quarantining on the sofa does to one. 20210606_080027.jpg

I walked up it to see what I would have encountered next if I had the balls to continue:
the road dropping off on the left is the hill I failed to climb, the middle is the sharp left turn, and the rise on the right is what I would have had to follow with: Fun stuff when you are in shape I imagine.

I guess I over-did the pace heading back down though: the front isolator looking very put-out and let-down with my treatment of her. A $200 dollar day!

It was 12 years old. And it was totally babied its entire life. I will have to do more "testing" to determine which was the prevailing factor.
I guess one will just have to be part of the standard kit for trips like this, since now that I know how fun this thing is in the wilds and that I am the limiting factor (save for the rubber parts).
